this book is wonderful

my mom made this book. buy it. she is a very special woman who changes the lives of those she meets with her beauty and calm healing...the stories are inspiring to all travelers and the photography is breathtaking. you will be happy to have a copy of this book.

The universal mom

I was fortunate to discover this book. It came as an added bonus when I purchased a collection of CDs from "New Dimensions" radio. It's a fantasic collection of photos and diary entries from the author as she travelled around finding beauty (and some troubles) in the world. Also included are words of wisdom from people like Helen Keller who said, "When one door of happiness closes, another opens. But often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us."
While initially receiving the book for free, I've since purchased several copies to pass along to others.
Every mom, sister, daughter, wife, girlfriend should be given such a treasure of words and images.

Great Idea of Universal Importance for Understanding Mankind

Tribe of Women is a compendium; along the lines of a project which I had pitched to Garage.com founder, Ann Winblad and Anita Borg, now at Santa Clara, for a new "WEB" based mythographic-history, which would start out at Olompali, in Marin, and then move through time and geography within the scope of FIVE GIRLS who would daydream in school while heering of the Gold Rush in a reading of "CALIFORNIA STAR"...this aside tale, "MOUNTAIN" (1994) is a 'mirror-site' if you will, of the mind's-eye of Jane, Jean, Janine, Joan, & June; respectively: Mexican-American, Hawaiian-American, Chinese-American, Italian-American, & African-American. They are entranced by a ael from Ireland called "GREEN SWASTIKA" (1989)which motif they resemble in the New World,...Jane speaks only Welsh...Jean understands only Scotch, Janine writes Cornish, Joan reads Breton, and June sings in the Mnax language. The story is an adventure tale which again is in step with the fact that the girls are at school where Francis Drake meet the Miwok Indians in 1579, making this America's 'other Jamestown.' To further illustrate the reciprocal arrangement of history...(MARS VENUS etc...) we need only look at San Francisco's founding date: 1776! So we can see that like the Stephen Schwartz 'heresy'...perhaps American started in the WEST and headed East? Because we know California started in the North and went South! The Internet is giving us a chance to CORRECT the TEXTS! One such correction? The "Amazons" of the Montalvo's story of California were "ROYAL REFUGEES!" (Perhaps ROMANOV?) The TRIBE of WOMEN also would be a GLOBE or DOME of HISTORY in that as the patterned California Star set out in 1985 to connect earlier 'Five Girl'story which I've steadily updated every so many years from 1979, one such imitator is seen in Sailor Moon from Japan. The upshot of the story turns to Woemn's Literature in California, and gives us Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farms, which royalties created the first kindergarden for working-class in the City, and the Bohemian-Hippy life-style, starting with the Indians themselves as COMMUNE members! The most recent of a genre as seen pictorial, I found to be the National Geographic view- a goodly amount of Ethnography shown-but for school curriiculum to be used as a Web-Portal, under localization (multilingual) one must have this "Tribes of Women" as one of the ONE HUNDRED or so "CLASSICS" we want in the schools...both to combat the institutionalised race-baiting this political structure runs on-but also becuase the PUBLISHERS are themselves located in NOVATO CALIFORNIA from where I originally launched my work-in-progress, and by coincidence, the Digital High Schools (AB-64)was enacted by a neighbor and childhood classmate. That leaves only the still required Venture Capital Funding to finish the project. I highly recommend for all children; "TRIBES of WOMEN" as so explained , and for all the above reasons! We need a new ethos!

Connie Bickman has spent over a decade documenting, in photographs and writing, the personal stories of women of every creed, color, language, and class. Tribe of Women collects the best of her work. Bickman?s travels have taken her down the Amazon on a boat and up the Great Pyramid of Cheops. From the Muslim woman who risked her life in letting her picture be taken (only her eyes showed through the opening in her veil), to the clay-covered Nomadic woman in Namibia carrying a goat like a cloak, to the young girls around the village of Medugorje, where the Madonna is alive to the faithful, Bickman?s subjects share the bond of humanity and service ? service to their families, their communities, and their gods. Tribe of Women invites the reader to discover these women and their worlds through the lens and pen of a generous observer. Includes 200 full-color photographs.
