Glad it's back!

I loved the earlier rendition of this book "Earth Mother Magic" and am glad its enjoying a reincarnation as "Pure Magic." Yes, I am partial to the first title--it said so much all by itself, still the contents are all there in "Pure Magic," updated and clarified in some cases. As a book lover I appreciate it when an author and publisher team up and bring an out of print book back to the market--this way it can be shared or one can replace their old yellowing copy. Glad to see it; loved reading; Judika is a fun, innovative and accurate witch for those desiring a variety of different types of spell work and herb craft.
Go girl & keep 'em coming!

I love this book. I bought it at Barnes and Noble yesterday, but:

After many previous readings at a local library in my area, I decided to buy this book for myself, and it's already been very valuable to me. Especially the insights she has on doing a good money spell. She is quite scholarly in her knowledge about magic and all of that, sure. But the book is actually very well organized and written. Sure her encyclopedias on Spells and Witchcraft are good, but this is the best she's done yet. And the suff she has in the book on Creole magic and all of that. Wow. Sounds like something straight out of my Grandmother Florence "Mama" Clayton's (that's my Grandmother on my Dad's side of the family) pantry of natural cures and all of that. (hee hee hee, wow!) Especially her references to High John The Conqueror root... It's a funny thing, but like she said in a previous tome, "magic is the tapping of natural forces...", etc., etc. Well this book will speak for itself if deeply read and understood as a Universal Sign that it is. And I'll let it speak for itself, I have written my review. Thank you.

Captain Josh.

Excellent

Please be warned that this book is a republished version of Judika Illes' "Earth Mother Magic", with slight alterations. It remains an excellent book, especially for those with a wish to enter the world of witchcraft, but with no idea how to begin. It covers a wide variety of subjects and several usefull spells while remaining clear and easy-to-read at all times. I highly recommend it.

Could be worse

This is a reprint of her earlier title, as several other reviewers have said.
However, in comparison with the fluff that we find in a great many other introductory magic books, I found it to be a good place to start.

My main quibbles were in her section on the Gods and Spirits, which is a difference in Theology. If you can accept that others differ in their view of the Gods, and only twitch slightly whilst reading it, you can survive.

I can't really hold the misleading titling against her, since that's not the author's realm of power. It is not a full course of spellwork, but more of an exploration of what magic can entail.

Pure Magic is a practical crash course for anyone who's ever envied TV witches. Or women who always seem to get the job, apartment, or date they want. Or people who can make their dreams come true. Judika Illes has written a spellcasting primer in down-to-earth language. "I consciously set out to write a book that would be different from any other on the market," Illes writes. "This book is jargon free. It contains information usually handed down from teacher to student. It focuses on the practical aspects of spellcasting in a clear and nonjudgmental way. . . . No specialized metaphysical training is required."

What is required is that we become aware of the natural rhythms, energies, powers, and patterns of Earth and her diverse inhabitants. Pure Magic offers a plethora of individual spells, plus concrete advice on how and where to practice magic, to rightly use words of power, and to cleanse, protect, and enhance your magic self. Work your way through it's easy-to-follow, step-by-step plan, and all will become clear. Learn to listen to Mother Earth, focus on your magical allies, gather the simple equipment Illes outlines, and follow the straightforward instructions, and you will soon be constructing your own spells and experiencing magic in your everyday life. Pure Magic is a book that beginners will follow rigorously and advanced spellcasters will refer to again and again for guidance and inspiration.

* From the author of The Element Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells, the real way to get magical results.

* Magic 101: this book is a complete course in real magic--how and why it works.

* Pure Magic is a perennial, from an author with a great track who knows what she's talking about.
