Your toolbox + handbook of creative problem solving

We are all born as talented artists but what do we forget as we grow? Michael Michalko helps us remember what we already unconsciously knew or simply did as we were creative kids. But make no mistakes, this book is not the silver bullet for all of your problems. You must be patient, very open-minded, not slave to the habit or discipline (just for the sake of discipline) and move along your way to being much more creative.

I really liked the structure of the book and I think I can use it as a creativity and problem solving reference, a kind of handbook. I have already read 'Mind Performance Hacks' and 'Pragmatic Thinking & Learning' which referred to some famous techniques and examples in this solid book.

Be warned: some of you may find the overuse of anecdotes disturbing or not very theoretical but grasping the essence of some of them will be very helpful.

Great Book!

I am on my second read of this book and many, many pages have corners folded over to come back to. The book is meant to have you use techniques in it, not just read it like a textbook. I can't say I have had huge breakthrough ideas yet, but I am convinced that these techniques will help get me out of a limited way of thinking. I have used the "Lotus Blossum" technique with success when working with a peer on a project. There are tons of great ideas in this book. I am using 1 idea each day for 30 days to help start building a new habit of creative thinking. I have made a 30 day chart to help me focus which I cross off each day. Note, this is not in the book. I just have done it to help overcome my resistance to using ideas. "That won't work" and "Why bother" are hard thoughts to overcome. I really recommend this book highly. My main point would be to use them, not just read about them though. We all need to realize all of the wonderful ideas and opportunities all around us but hidden due to our fear driven society and increasing dependance on others to bail us out of hard situations. Required reading for all.

Need ideas? Buy this book

From the moment I opened my Thinkertoys, I knew for sure I was going to like this book. It sure helps you to change your way of thinking. Yesterday I started to practice one of the Thinkertoys, and it definitely worked out. I was asked to write to write affirmations about myself; Example, "how good you are here, we need you to help us". And just today at school I was asked to join a work team. I never get invited; I always end joining the group that hasn't enough members. If the first exercise of the book shows results this fast, I can't wait to read them all.
Do something for yourself, read Thinkertoys.
