Every four years we pay tribute to the influence of Ancient Greece on our society when we celebrate the Olympics. Their influence on modern society is much broader and wider. Some of the influence is so pervasive we have forgotten it was there.
When you think, you do exactly what the Greeks were doing almost 3,000 years ago. The greatest influence the ancient Greeks had on modern America is in the area of ideas.
The idea that sounds could be represented by symbols which later became our alphabet, the idea that the mind and the body must be in harmony, as well as many others, some expressed in this book, come to us through actual writings, from artifacts, and sculpture that has survived through the years.
The purpose of this book is to give a brief overview of the influence from Ancient Greece that have become part of our own culture. This is just a little reminder that our society is made of multiple influences. We carry with us the traditions and influences of many people from many countries. This book is to pay tribute, in a small way, to the debt we owe those who have gone before.
