Surviving Hell: A POW's Journey

Leo gives us an intimate glimpse of real torture at the hands of real torturers: Waterboarding would have been a welcome relief. The story paints the vivid contrast between the politicians, then and now, and the warriors who do the fighting, suffering, and dying, then and now. It is a story of courage, faith, optimism, sacrifice, and brotherhood, that transcends life. Told by a true hero about lots of other true heroes.

Good reading

Excellent reading. We are to be very grateful to our veterans, of which I am. This book will make problems we think we have pale in comparison, to what our POW's and MIA's go through.

couldn't put it down!

I bought the book for my husband and he couldn't put it down once he started reading it. He has already lent it to a friend.

Riveting Story of Courage

Surving six years in hell is no small feat. Yet, Leo Thorsness is as humble as they come. The incredible story of his captivity in Viet Nam is riveting. It was jarring to the emotions when he spoke of the cruelty and suffering, yet gentle to the spirit as he shared his faith, his humor, and his compassion for the enemy. It is a must read for every American of any age. It builds determination to take the path of courage regardless of whatever challenge you may be facing personally. It renews our faith in family, country and American values upon which our country was founded. It rallies us to create our own stories of courage. Get it for yourself, your family, and a friend who needs encouragement.

POW book

The book arrived in a timely manner. It is a Christmas gift for my husband who recently attended a speech by the author. Since I will not be reading the book I can't comment on it, however, my husband was very impressed with his speech so if it's anything like the speech it should be a book that people interested in these topics should find interesting.

Thorsness joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 at age 18 and became a jet pilot during the Vietnam War. During an 1967 mission he was shot down over North Vietnam. Injured and captured, he spent six years in the Hanoi Hilton. When the war ended in 1973, Thorsness was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Surviving Hell is a harrowing story of captivity, as told by the man who lived it.
