Enjoyable - Almost

I have enjoyed countless Piers Anthony books in my day. I am a proud owner of the entire Xanth series, Modes series, and the other seven Incantations of Immortality books. When I discovered an eighth book, I was very excited, similar to many of my fellow reviewers.

My enthusiasm was swiftly thwarted, however, when I began the actual reading of the novel. I looked forward to being reunited with favorite characters (Zane, Orb, Luna, etc.) but not only were they barely present, they were in an entirely separate reality! It was difficult to see how Anthony was going to connect this story to any of the others, which he has made clear was his ultimate goal. He managed to, but it was by a thread.

Unfortunately, the sex was not nearly as thin as the plot. If you are easily offended, and I am not, this is NOT the book for you. If you are looking to complete the reading of this series, you still do not need to read this. If you are curious about the book that spawned so many negative reviews, PLEASE take it from me - GET IT AT A LIBRARY. Not only is it not offered in mass market paperback, I am not convinced that I would buy it having read it even for $7. I am glad that I read it, sort of. Just keep it away from the kids. Or your parents. Or anyone you want to keep innocent.

I actually bought this for my son, who had recently read the Incarnation series which I had bought and read years ago. I was surprised that it wasn't the same size as my other paperbacks and he was surprised at the amount of sex it had in it.

The eighth book in Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series. It is the year 500 AD. Kerena, a beautiful young girl living near King Arthur's Camelot, is apprenticed to Morely the Seer. Morely teaches her fantastic magic, but when he mysteriously disappears, Kerena finds herself out on the street and must resort to prostitution to survive. Kerena prospers as a skilled courtesan until she is taken into service by Morgan le Fey, the sorceress sister of King Arthur. Kerena's knowledge of magic grows as she is required to carry out nefarious deeds for the evil Lady Fey. One of her missions is to seduce Sir Gawain, Knight of the Round Table, to prevent him from locating the Holy Grail. But Gawain and Kerena fall in love and she conceives his child, a child she discovers is cursed to die an early death. Using her Seer abilities, Kerena tries to locate the fabled Incarnations of Immortality, seeking their aid in removing the taint from her baby. Rebuffed by all seven major Incarnations, Kerena vows revenge. But revenge against such mighty immortals would require an even greater power...
