More swashbuckling adventure on the high seas...

The Reliance picks up three years after the end of events in The Redemption -- Lady Charlisse is married to her honorable pirate captain, Edmund Merrick, but they have spent precious little of their three years of marriage together. Merrick's drive to rid the Caribbean of vicious pirates has kept them separated. Just when the hope of establishing a family and some stability begins to take root in Charlisse's heart, she and Merrick find themselves caught in the midst of a pirate attack led by Henry Morgan. Their old nemesis, Kent Carlton, kidnaps Charlisse and stages her death, sending their lives into a whirlpool of danger and intrigue.

I love that Tyndall chose to explore Charlisse and Edmund's marriage. All too often you read a novel, fall in love with the characters, and never learn more of their lives after the initial romance. Tyndall takes Edmund and Charlisse through a series of trials during their forced separation that tests not only their commitment to each other but also to their faith. When everything else is stripped away, Edmund and Charlisse learn to rely on God's unwavering faithfulness in the midst of life's storms.

The Reliance has all of the action and adventure that made its predecessor such a fun, engaging read. Tyndall has a wonderful way of expressing faith in her novels -- a relationship with God is a living, breathing presence in the lives of her characters that are believers. She succeeds in making faith a vibrant, real part of her characters' lives without coming across as preachy. One issue with this sequel, however, is that it didn't feel quite as tightly plotted as The Redemption, and at points the timeline of events was somewhat muddied. That aside, I applaud Tyndall for crafting a highly enjoyable tale that delved deeper into the lives of her hero and heroine, strengthening their faith walk as well as their relationship with each other.

Well Written Series

I have read books one and two in the Legacy of the King's Pirates series and half of the third. I can't put them down. I really wasn't sure if I would like the series or not, but they are awesome. I would highly recommend these books to both Christian Fiction lovers and pirate lovers.

Loved it!!

A swashbuckling tale of pirates, both good and evil. In THE RELIANCE, M.L. Tyndall weaves a masterful tale set in the Caribbean following the lives of Capt. Edmund Merrick and his thought to be dead wife Charlisse. THE RELIANCE picks up where THE REDEMPTION left off. M.L. Tyndall has done a great job capturing both the action and the romance of life on the high seas.

Feeling as if God has turned his back on him, Merrick struggles with the voice of evil inside him, convincing him he must avenge his wife's death. He soon returns to his former life of pirating as a way to gain information regarding the whereabouts of the pirate he holds responsible for taking Charlisse from him. Charlisse on the other hand, is being held captive by both a vile pirate and her thoughts of abandonment. When she hears rumors that Merrick has returned to his former life, she feels as if she has been forgotten by God and her husband.

Action, adventure, and romance, await you in the Legacy of the King's Pirates Series. I have only two regrets. One - The hero and heroine are apart during most of the story. Two - I too am writing a story set around the volatile life and adventures of pirates. Though I wish I had beat Marylu to the punch, I did not allow that to deter me from enjoying her captivating tale.

She's Gone and Done it Again!

Christian piracy sails on. Tyndall's second installment to her LEGACY OF THE KING'S PIRATES trilogy, The Reliance, is another swashbuckling page turner. Chapter one of this "historical romance" opens with our hero and heroine lounging on a beach in Porto Bello, Panama--where we'd all love to lounge. Three paragraphs later, still on page one, musket and cannon fire shatter all romance. Our sunbathing lovers are interrupted by pirates sacking the town. That's how fast Tyndall moves. Not fast enough?

Captain Morgan sacks San Lorenzo. Merrick and Charlisse fight their way out of town on Don Deigo's stallion, pistol and musket fire snap close behind. On the road out of town, they find a church full of abandoned orphans. How to save them from advancing pirates? Merrick leaves Charlisse to hide the children in the church, and goes in search of a wagon. As Merrick rides away from the church, the building, where he's just left his wife, explodes. As does his soul. That's page twenty-three, the end of chapter two. Not fast enough?

By page twenty-six we discover that Charlisse is alive, but kidnapped by Captain Kent Carlton, leftover bad-guy from book one, The Redemption. Merrick searches the rubble, then sinks into despair's depths.

If you're wanting a romance novel about dating and what to wear, this ain't it. Well, Charlisse does cross-dress a couple of times, in order to visit a pirate port, and captain her husband's vessel. Yes, chick-lit readers, Charlisse captains the Redemption. She even gives the order to fire a broadside at her rum-swilling soon-to-be-ex-husband's new flagship, the Satisfaction.

In the course of middle chapter soul-wringing, we're tortured by main characters' ships that pass in the night, their honest motivations and terrible pain.

The Reliance has many plot subtleties, but peel these onion layers for yourself, and enjoy. This Tyndall woman can write. If you're able, start with The Redemption, in order to meet living characters in living color.

Another - cannot put down - read.

I normally have a problem with sequels but this by far met my expectations and more. I am glad I bought it in a 3 set so I was able to quickly get on with the next book. I just could not put these books down.

This book ripped at my mother's/wife's heart as I read each page.

The new character of Isabell was not as lovable to me as Charlisse had been when I first met her. But she was a great character also.

What happens with Merrick is surprising for him turning away so quickly and as a women I had outrage in how quickly he could find the arms of other women. But knowing all too well that is the way a lot of guys tick and it is just that, a guy thing. It was believable to me. But very heartbreaking.

This was a great book, well done and I can't wait for more more more!

Tormented by his wife's apparent demise, Edmund Merrick sails away to drown his sorrows-only to find himself trapped in the dark world of a demented Frenchman. When his mind clears from its rum-induced haze, will Edmund find the will to escape? Seemingly abandoned by her husband, Charlisse is thrown into the clutches of the vengeful pirate Kent. Will she be swept away by the undertow of treachery and despair? Can Edmund and Charlisse steer their way to the faith-filled haven they so desperately seek, or will they ultimately lose their love and lives to the sea?
