MOUTH WORMS AND KISSES

I pretty much let it rip in my review for Volume 1 of this Korean series, but Volume 2 was light years ahead of it and got me back as a reader. It turns out that Moolchi's "vitamins" that he's always downing are causing an unprecedented and unnatural growth spurt. Not only is he getting taller, but he's also getting stronger. He even takes down one of the bullies that's been giving him a hard time. He's also getting closer to Kanghee Song, his fellow student, but someone might try to come between them. His name is Narutbae, who in addition to being the school badass, also has a thing for Kanghee. And he might even be willing to force himself on her. Another thing making all these changes and challenges worse is the arrival of a creature hunting for Moolchi whose body seems to be composed of worms that can take over and control human bodies.

This volume just had so much going for it than the first. For one, the romance between Moolchi and Kanghee is a refreshing break from some of the other fantastical elements. The prominent place of Narutbae and the worm creature also add more conflict and mystery to 0/6. From reading the first volume, I thought this series was going to be so cliched and predictable that there would be no point in continuing it, but I was wrong...at least for now it has intrigued me to go on reading.

Better than Volume 1

Fans of Volume 1 will definitely be pleased with Volume 2. Now that the story and characters have been set up, the writer can start having fun and it shows. The story is in full swing; there are many cliffhangers in this volume. As I mentioned in my review for Volume 1, the writer is very imaginative and gets a ton of mileage out of ordinary settings. That statement goes double for Volume 2. At the end of the book, I was thinking to myself, "wow, this is all happening in a high school." The Zero/Six story is many genres rolled into one: Teen, Sci-Fi, Thriller, Romance. I honestly love this series.

Moolchi's coming-of-age saga continues. The mysterious, but tough student Narutbae develops a strange obsession with the lovely Kanghee. Meanwhile, Moolchi's vitamins reveal themselves to be more than meets the eye. They cause a mysterious growth spurt that makes him taller and stronger, garnering the attentions of both friends and bullies. Moolchi finally musters the courage to meet Kanghee after school, but little does he know that Narutbae has dangerous intentions towards her. More danger reveals itself in the form of a mysterious monster that steals the bodies of its human victims. It slowly makes its way to Korea, hopping from host to host, closing in on Moolchi. More determined than ever to protect Moolchi, the automaton Jong-E enrolls in Moolchi's school in order to stay close to him, inadvertently becoming the center of attention from all the lustful boys. Will Jong-E's enrollment hinder or help her mission as the dangers close in all around her and Moolchi?
