Eli Manning The Making of a Quarterback

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It gave many insights into his personality and the development of this Super Bowl MVP quarterback. There were many exciting moments like what took place in the draft room leading up to the trade of Eli to the Giants. The relationship of Eli to his family was very interesting. It explains a lot of what he is all about. Learned to admire Accorsi's conviction. Roethlisberger was my choice but Vacchiano makes it clear that in the end Eli is the guy. The stage was set for the drafting of Eli with the ineptitude of Danny Cannel, Dave Brown, and Kent Graham. Then came Collins who looked for a while like the answer. Never knew exactly why Kerry Collins left until I read the book. A great read for a football fan. A must read for a Giant fan. A wonderful book.

informative ..but could have been better

i found the book to be very informative but didnt create the total insights from the season... seemed like a two minute offese of his life put toghter.. could have more intrigue of him gaining faith of his teamates as the year grew and less of the old home style boyhood..

Eli is official

REAL giants fans and true supporters of Eli from day one will love this book. Everyone knew that it was a rough journey to the top for Eli, but until reading this book, you will never know exactly how much he had to go through.I would recommend this to any hardcore Giants fan who cant get enough inside information. The book is well written and has alot to offer in terms of insider anecdotes, a must have for the true Giants fan.

Pretty Good

I like Ralph's Blue Screen blog and I liked his writing and TV appearances while I lived in NYC. So buying the book was a no-brainer especially since I was a Eli supporter since the day we drafted him.

It's good and I expected a lot of inside details about Eli and we got some... but compared to LT's book and other sport books, it doesn't feel like Ralph had enough inside access. I skimmed a lot of Plaxico's book and even that was pretty good because you can tell Plaxico is giving us every single detail according to his view.

Pretty good but it lacks the first-account stories and insight as if Eli wrote it himself or was involved.

New York Giants beat writer Ralph Vacchiano examines the quarterback position in the NFL from all angles, using Giants quarterback (and Super Bowl XLII MVP) Eli Manning as his primary focus.

When Eli Manning found teammate Plaxico Burress in the end zone with just 35 seconds remaining in Super Bowl XLII, he completed what was perhaps the greatest game-winning drive and unlikely upset in Super Bowl history. But the drive, which also included a remarkable escape and pass completion to unheralded receiver David Tyree, was the culmination of years of promise and development. Champion quarterbacks aren't made overnight.

With Manning, the Super Bowl MVP, as its focal point, New York Daily News Giants beat writer Ralph Vacchiano's Eli Manning: The Making of a Quarterback is a fascinating insider's look at the National Football League, how stars are made and crushed, and how fortunes are won and lost on the performance of one man: the quarterback. From the bold draft day trade that brought Manning to New York, through his dramatic ups and downs on and off the field, his first training camp to his last-minute heroics in Super Bowl XLII, Vacchiano takes a candid and revealing look at the people and events that made Manning's and his 2007 Giants' success one of the greatest stories in modern sports history. Complete with exclusive interviews with NFL stars, coaches, and executives and a foreword by former Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi, Vacchiano uses his unfettered access to the world champion Giants to present a true, behind-the scenes look at the quarterback and team that defied all of the experts and oddsmakers to pull off one of the most phenomenal upsets in pro football history. 25 b/w photographs.
