Talking ACT: A Pleasure to read

Talking ACT is an excellent effort. I'm so glad David Chantry put the book together. Over the last few years, I've saved a lot of the best emails from the world-wide ACT list-serve, but of course, I never get around to re-reading them. But now David Chantry has gone and organized and catalogued the best of them, in Talking ACT. It's a great book to pick up, open anywhere at random, and just start reading. You can also use it as a great reference book: it's like having a panel of ACT experts discussing all those niggly little questions that you just can't find answers to in the textbooks. And because of the infromal writing style,it's a lot easier than reading a textbook.

Enjoy,
Cheers, Russ Harris

Talking ACT contains a selection of e-mails to the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Listserv between July 2002 and August 2005, compiled and edited by David Chantry, a clinical psychologist and ACT Listserv member in Staffordshire, U.K. The book comprises questions, answers, and commentaries by more than 140 ACT Listserv members. This volume started life as a personal archive supporting the editor s clinical practice. These e-mail exchanges provide rich and detailed insights into ACT s core principles and processes; its theoretical, scientific and philosophical foundations; clinical issues and applications; findings from ongoing research; and comparisons with other therapies and traditions. A raw and uncensored e-conversation, this wide-ranging book allows readers to look deep inside the thinking of ACT / RFT practitioners and researchers, as if overhearing unguarded, unvarnished discussions between close friends and colleagues. In its very informality it captures the vibrant sense of possibility and community that is among the most notable characteristics of this vigorous new scientific approach to human functioning. By way of anthology or informal encyclopedia, this heavily-indexed volume adds significantly to the body of ACT literature currently available.
