A thief in the night on DVD

I saw this video when I was about 15 years old or so. I loved it so much that I wanted to share it with others. Some new generation hadn't seen it before and I wanted them to view it. It portrays what Jesus talked about in the gospels as to what signs we are to look for at the end times. This movie is not to scare anyone into believing in Jesus, but just present facts and it serves as a warning to us. The more I see what's going on in this world, the more I see that what Jesus said would happen is happening right before our eyes. That is something we can't deny. I loved this movie. The video itself was in great condition. I purchased a new DVD. I loved it.

So Many Reviews Say So Much About It

A great number of the one-star reviews make references to 'therapy.' I can certainly understand why, esp. if you have already rejected the idea of God. Another of the one-star reviews pities the dispensational view presented by this movie.

"A Thief In The Night" might be best remembered as a 'Christian basement favorite' designed to - literally - scare the Hell out of anyone on that path. It was a four-movie series telling a dispensational version of the 'end times message' of the church being taken up in the Rapture and millions upon millions left to fend for themselves and face seven years of war, famine, and daily reruns of "Hee Haw," also known as the Tribulation.

(My purpose is not to discuss the merits or demerits of dispensationalism as a theological system. Hence, I will not criticize or praise the movie for that particular advocacy).

The acting in this movie is atrocious. I'm guessing it was made in somebody's back yard with a Girl Scout cookie salesperson of the year budget and not much else. The bearded guy (I think his name was Joe) was quite freaky. He looked like an Antichrist. Patty's husband got bit by a cobra and received a blood transfusion from a guy who had been bitten many times. I doubt this made even basic medical sense, but it makes the flick entertaining. Patty attends a liberal church (pastored by Bishop Spong, no doubt) that is more focused on the here and now than the hereafter.

She dreams of the occurence of the Rapture and entry into the Tribulation. When she awakens from the dream, everything she dreamed begins to happen (with the irritating noise of an alarm clock in the background that sounds an awful lot like the city alerts for nuclear fallout).

The music in this thing is horrendous as well with the most memorable a piece by a hippie Christian musician named Larry Norman entitled, "I Wish We'd All Been Ready." The emphasis is upon Christ coming as a 'thief in the night.'

The movie - as numerous reviewers have noted - is nothing short of terrifying. Although I am an evangelical myself, I'm highly reluctant to use this as a ministry tool. It seems too much like a 'Reefer Madness'-style attempt to scare the viewer into the author's conclusion.

Entertaining but definitely not for the unsure of salvation.
