Job Seekers "Must Have" Book

As a manager in the federal government, I'm responsible for employee development programs entry to the executive levels. One of the programs I manage is the SES (Senior Executive Service) Candidate Develpment Program. Lily Whiteman has delivered a book containing clear, concise information for all seeking employement with the federal goverment. The accuracy, the straight forward, easy to follow instructions and writing samples, are valuable tools designed to bring success to the job seeker. I highly recommend this book!

Best Guidance Around

"Get Hired!" offers some of the best advice you will find for navigating through the federal hiring process, whether you're already in the system or trying to get into it. Whiteman uses clear language and humor to help people apply the common sense approach she delivers to their own resumes and qualifications statements. I use the book with groups and individuals from interns to Presidential Management Fellows to senior managers trying to break into the Senior Executive Service. The examples and resources are excellent, from building skills and experience to presenting those experiences in the most effective style. She even covers interviewing, negotiating salaries, hiring help for veterans, non-competitive appointments, formatting tips, a glossary and a CD with sample resumes. Whiteman covers it all.

Outstanding Guide to Federal Employment!!

This book was everything I could have asked for and more. The author knows her subject forward and backward, explains what to do and why and gives insight into the process from personal experience. I have followed her advice and gotten good responses to my applications. Without this guidance, I was lost when it came to writing the KSA's (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) for the application, which is a key aspect of the application. Well worth the money to buy and the time to read it.

You need this book!

Based upon my experience hiring federal employees, I can tell you that Lily does a great job of explaining how hiring managers think and how to impress them. She certainly helped me improve my own applications in very significant ways. And because Lily has a wonderful sense of humor, her approach is entertaining as well as enlightening!
