Highly recommend this book

Great book, lots of great examples, easy to apply the techniques and it works! So glad I bought it. Would highly recommend.

not for autistic meltdowns

I bought this book to help with my autistic's child meltdowns. This book, in my opinion, is really about neuro-typical children and not those on the spectrum.

No More Meltdowns

Absolutely the best book written by anyone on how to cope appropriately with childrens' emotional/behavioral meltdowns! Dr. Backer is a highly qualified and experienced psychologist and parent whose book helps parents and teachers to distinguish between tantrums and meltdowns. He gives simple descriptions and examples to help adults understand the situations in which a child's meltdowns occur and how they may not only handle the child's behavior but also foresee such behavior occurring in the future and plan how to prevent and/or appropriately and successfully handle these events. The author also provides forms which may be copied to guide and assist parents and teachers. As a clinical child psychologist myself I highly recommend this book for all parents and teachers and particularly for parents and teachers of vulnerable children e.g. ADHD, Asperger's, PDD NOS, and others on the autistic spectrum.

Best possible resource for child behavior!!

Almost one year ago my daughter was diag. the Asperger Syndrome. After numerous books and therapies I found Jed Baker's bookS. A salvation for our family. First this book gave me insight into why the behaviors happened and the ability understand to adjust the behaviors. Then Jed Bakers Social Story Picture Book helped my daughter understand (non-critical) why not to act certain ways in a very fun way. THE BEST BOOK I EVER PURCHASED. THANK YOU JED BAKER!!

A great resource for parents and professionals

As a parent coach, I am always looking for good new resources. This book is a real gem for parents and professionals who struggle with kids who have tantrums. Dr. Baker teaches how to avoid meltdowns and how to deal with them when they occur. He helps us understand the possible roots of the problem- not just responses to the behavior. Some of the triggers for meltdowns that he addresses are: demands (parent says do this or go here), waiting, threats to self-image, and unmet wishes for attention.

As an author myself, I appreciate how important it for a book to not only read well but look good. This is an easy read, great layout and graphics and one of my new favorite references for my parenting classes and clients. Great job Dr. Baker!!
