Review of N.American Song Bird Book
I enjoy the sound features for the
bird
s in the book "Bird
Song
s
250
North
American
Birds
in Song" by Les Beletsky. The index is hard to use due to the fact that they don't use the common name first. For example, if I wanted to look up Cardinal, I have to know it's a Northern Cardinal (it's listed in the N's). I would suggest they categorize all the Wrens, followed by their specific name i.e. Wren, House. Otherwise it's a beautiful book.

MANY HOURS OF ENJOYMENT
This book provides a visually pleasing discovery of various
bird species
and their
song
s. Without any hesitation I'd recommend it for older folks with limited mobility, young ones and everyone in-between.
A rather hefty hardcover with an attached sound sampling device, this is no flimsy, lightweight book.
With many beautiful illustrations and brief text information, it was presented to my 80-year-old mother when she recently visited. (Thank you Amazon for the shipping upgrade to help ensure it arrived earlier in the week for her visit.) As mutual bird lovers we poured over roughly 20 pages--sampling various bird
songs together
. Later I managed to fit it in her compact rolling suitcase for the return flight home.
Since that time she has spent hours at her own kitchen table--discovering more about the different species and sampling the songs. It has served as visual stimuli and a study tool and certain songs have even taken her back to earlier childhood days.
It's heartwarming to know this beautiful book has kept her mind stimulated and provided hours of delightful entertainment. My only regret is not having a copy of my own!

A treasure to own...
When I purchased this book the first time, I thought it would be entertaining to people who have seen many
bird
s at their bird feeders over the years. I was completely unprepared for the actual calls of each bird shown in the book. They are so realistic that the first time I pushed the button, my indoor-always cat flew across the room and up onto the book to grab that bird, ripping three little tears in the page in his pursuit. Wow!
Since then I have purchased it several more times to surprise my sister and other relatives and friends. It's always a hit!

Drawing from the collection of the world-renowned Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology,
Bird
Song
s presents the most notable
North
American
birds including
the rediscovered Ivory-billed Woodpecker in a stunning new format. Renowned bird biologist Les Beletsky provides a succinct description of each of the
250
birds profiled, with an emphasis on their distinctive
songs
. Lavish full-color illustrations accompany each account, while a sleek, built-in digital audio player holds 250 corresponding songs and calls. In his foreword, North American bird expert and distinguished natural historian Jon L. Dunn shares insights gained from a lifetime of passionate study. Complete with the most up-to-date and scientifically accurate information, Bird Songs is the first book to capture the enchantment of these beautiful birds in words, pictures, and song. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, located in Ithaca, New York, is a nonprofit institution focused on birds and whose mission is to interpret and conserve the earth's biological diversity through research. The Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab is the major source of sound recordings of birds for research, education, conservation, the media, and commercial products.
