Good for those who want to make a living in the business

I have read over a dozen screen writer books and this one feels more like you are hearing good advice from someone who has sold scripts, had movies made, and can truly be called a professional writer versus just a writer living off of aspiring writers looking for any insight, knowledge, and advice. It is nice Snyder does not take himself to seriously. It is an entertaining read while being educational.

Snyder is among a growing number who are saying start with things like the title, log line, and movie poster. If you cannot make those things peak the interest of those who you test it on, then why waste weeks or months doing a script that in the end will likely get over looked because it does not have that spark. Sadly, the studio movie business is a business, not an art foundation. If that kind of statement turns you off, then "Save The Cat!" will turn you off. Don't get me wrong, I am all for truly original content, but the business nature of the modern studio make very original scripts a hard sell. Snyder is trying to give readers a straight formula for giving your scripts the best shot at being bought and also doing well in the theaters.

This will not be the last boon on screenwriting you will ever need, but it should one every writer reads. I also have the follow up to this book, which if you love this one then you enjoy "Save The Cat: Goes to the Movies".

The ever elusive Second act... is here

If you are a seasoned "reader" of screenwriting books, you must have noticed something: every author mentions the difficulty on writing a good second act. But they don't tell you how to write one.

Blake does. Every page in this book is valuable for one reason or another, but le'me tell you: You ain'gonna find how to write a good second act in any other book.

And, as you may know for now, the second act IS the movie...

A must for anyone interested in the industry.

This book was recommended to me by a pro-screen writer who has several significant screen credits to his name. From the first chapter I was hooked. It completely makes sense. I am a believer.
