You don't have to be a Russian emigre to appreciate this book. A lot of people will look at them self and their place in the society after reading this novel. Enjoy it!
At some point in their life the characters of this novel loose their happiness, will and mind. The worlds of a successful lawyer George Zarov (Zora) and a pampered house wife Lyalya Gordeeva collapse. The swirl of events sweeps them away from their comfortable lifes in the Washington suburbs back to their starting points, making them once again face their deeply hidden secrets, insecurities and childhood problems, long thought to be forgotten and left for good in the far away soviet Moscow. Will these mature adults be able to hold on to their love and family? Who are they? Strong accomplished individuals, or eternal half-bloods (polukrovki), immigrants from themselves, full of insecurities and self doubt? - these are just some of the complex questions facing the characters. The novel
Polukrovka
is an intriguing story, full of romantic conflicts, dramatic episodes, keenly describing the realities of life in the US capital and its people, including those who immigrated from the former Soviet Union.
