COPING WITH LOSS...
Men Don't
Leave
is a portrayal of the obstacles and challenges one woman faces after the untimely death of her husband.
Burdened as a single mom without a job, whose husband has left her penniless, Beth Macauley (Jessica Lange) pulls up roots and moves to the city--to a grim apartment.
Her children deal with their father's death and their mother's new roles in ways that challenge her even more.
Struggling, she sometimes faces such depression that she doesn't think she can go on.
But then unexpected blessings appear on the horizon, reminding her that life does go on.

LOVE THIS MOVIE
Can Jessica Lange be any better (besides her EXCELLENT performance {and well deserved Oscar win} in "Blue Sky")? Not only is she one of the best all time actresses ever, but in this role, she really makes you believe in the character and what she is going through. I can't belive she wasn't nominated for an Academy Award for this performance. A feel good, or even great movie with excellent support from Joan Cusack (always a pleasure to watch) and Chris O'Donnell (always nice to look at) If you have not seen this movie, do so. You will be in for a real treat.

Please note: this is a transfer from the vhs
It is not a digital remaster. It is also available much cheaper from the Warner Brothers online store.
DVD NOW RELEASED!!!
Just letting everyone know that Warner Brothers has now released the DVD available only from the Warner Brothers website. It is $19.95 plus shipping which is kind of high, but worth it for me. It seems to me be just a homemade DVD. It comes un-wrapped in a standard case with a simple sleeve. It will NOT play in recordable DVD players or PC's.

Most directors use a hit film to launch an immediate career--but not Paul Brickman, who hit in 1983 with Risky Business then waited until 1990 to make this, his second movie. And it was a good, if overlooked one, starring Jessica Lange as a woman suddenly widowed and unable to cope. She moves her kids (including Chris O'Donnell in his film debut) from the suburbs to downtown Baltimore, where they develop urban survival skills much more quickly than she does. Most of the plot centers on her inability to open up to a man (Arliss Howard) who obviously is right for her--and on O'Donnell's improbable (but extremely funny) affair with a nurse who lives upstairs (Joan Cusack). Touching and funny enough that its lack of surprise won't bother you. --Marshall Fine
