One of the best books I have ever read!

Like the reviewer above, I read this book in spanish when I was probably 11 or 12 yrs old. It moved me like no other and I have re-read it several times in the past 15 years. It is a moving tale about humanity, real life and the tenuous ties that bind us to one another. This tale is woven from the raw emotions of disappointment and fulfillment, but most of all it is a tale about growing up. Its experience is far removed from our cyber era, where we socialize and hide behind our computer screens. This book really makes you think about what the 'life experience' is truly all about. I have recommended this book to several people, and they all came back to tell me that it was a wonderful read.

The Best Book Ever!!!!!

I read this book when I was 13 in Spanish. I have read it many times since, and everytime I gain something new. It is certainly one of the books that will remain in my heart forever. You can't help but fall in love with Zeze. When you least know it, he is under your skin. Beware, you will shed a few tears for the reality of the poor children in Brasil. This book should be read by all the kids in the first world. It is an eye opener for those who see poverty as just another part of the scenery of the world. Too bad there has not been additional editions in English. I now find myself buying used copies to share it with my anglophone friends. This book is the cutest and most tender literary work I have ever encountered. It goes fast and easy, and although it may sound as a children's book, I would recommend it to anyone 13 and up.
