3 minute waffles

I happily received this is a Christmas gift after our previous waffle maker broke.

The very next morning I started to make waffles for my family. I used the recipe in the manual and poured the batter into the iron. Then I set a kitchen timer for 4 minutes and came on here to look at the reviews. Once I saw some of the reviews saying that the indicator light turns off when the waffles are over done, I ran to the waffle iron and indeed they were a little on the overcooked side.

I have found that 3 minutes is a perfect time - I'm over 7,000 above sea level here in Colorado so it may be the altitude for me.

I also experienced a hot handle so I used the latch to lift the hinge.

The result of the waffles are excellent at 3 minutes, so I am happy with it. If the end result of the waffles were not satisfactory, I would have returned the unit. Sometimes you can't have all the features perfect in a waffle iron - so settling for hot handles is a small sacrifice. I'd rather deal with a hot handle than cool handles and a poor waffle!

inexpensive fabulous waffles

Pros: inexpensive waffle maker; waffles shaped the way Belgian waffles are shaped in Belgium; simple to use; compact upright storage; comes with recipes for waffles "from scratch"; lights work just like george foreman grill or other appliance - on when heating element is on.

Cons: hot handle (as other reviews have mentioned) - read the instruction manual for where to touch; difficult to clean, but unless your waffle maker has removable plates (you'll find these on more expensive models), that seems to be the hardest part; also, do not put syrups in the waffle maker - this makes cleaning extremely difficult!; you must learn (trial & error) the appropriate cooking time for different types and amounts of batter - more watery batters take 4.5 mins, while whole wheat batters don't take much longer than 3 mins (Aunt Jemima's mixes take about 4 teaspoonfuls per waffle at 3.5 mins cooking time).

Overall, my husband & i enjoy fresh waffles almost every weekend - I will never buy frozen again! I have yet to find a waffle recipe that closely mimics the Belgian staple, but once I do, I've got the appliance to make it!

Quality breakfast in very little time!!

I make homemade waffles for my daycare kids about twice a week. My last waffle maker stopped working suddenly one morning! I had it many many years. I really needed a new one in a hurry, so I ordered online. I was not sure about the brand, but knew that I did not want to spend a lot of money. For the money, this waffle maker makes excellent waffles in very little time. BUT!!! Beware!! The handle does get very hot! I did read this in the reviews and knew that I could deal with this problem. The waffles are crunchy on the outside and very yummy in the inside.

Don't waffle over this item

I am a waffle expert from both sides of the griddle. This is the best in the domestic market one can buy. Simple to use, consistently reliable, and easy to clean. This is the fourth one I've purchased: two for me to use side-by-side, and two to give for gifts to very deserving recipients.

A waffle from the freezer section bears only a faint resemblance to one made at home in terms of flavor and texture. Treat yourself and your family to the real thing with minimal effort. Pass the maple syrup!
