This is just fantastic entertainment!
This is a joy to watch on laserdisc - ear candy as far as the music goes! The band is incredibly tight. Takanaka plays with grace, style, and precision. I own the laserdisc, but also the album. While I enjoy watching the laserdisc, I like the way the music is presented better on the album.
I cannot figure out why this has not been released on DVD???? It's just a great show for everyone-adults and children would enjoy it. If you like music that is fun, uplifting, and enjoyable to listen to over and over again, consider this purchase.
I have listened to this album for 20 years and watched the video multiple times - I never have tired of the story told or the music. As an aside, Takanaka is an excellent musician and his music has always been enjoyable to play and watch.
Take a listen - you'll be hooked!

Introduction to Jazz
In 1981, my daughter was born at the US Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan. I was 27 years old and a rock and roll listener. The company Pioneer has just come out with the newest in technology, the Laserdisc Player. I bought the player at the A-33 Navy Exchange on our base. The player was packaged with a Greatest Hits by Queen Laser Disc. Hooked up with my stereo, this was a very potent combination. Wandering the streets of Kinugasa, a town about 6 km from the base, me with my shipmates, Sieg and Juan, found a stereo store called Sugimoto and playing on the video screen was this weird Japanese guy with the
rainbow colored
hair style. The colors and clarity of the video mesmerized us. A number of trips to the store finally convinced us to buy the disc caleed Rainbow
Goblins Story
by Masayoshi Takanaka. That was by far, one of the most enjoyable videos I owned. Did not realize the genre of the music at the time and was later educated by a Japanese friend that Takanaka is a very popular modern jazz musician. Enjoyable, easy to listen to and the video was very entertaining.

Get it....where to find the DVD
This was a historic recording as it was one of the first done exclusively for laserdisc by Pioneer. I have that laserdisc but would love a DVD of it if you have a lead. If you have heard the albim....you should see it being done on stage. I have never ever seen a band like this that was so tight and inspiring.
We used it for years at a hifi store I worked at to sell Kloss projection TV's and high end audio. That good.
A Joy to the Ears
It amazes that the recordings I stumble upon are the ones that turn out to be my all-time favorites. Like accidentally ordering the wrong stock number and getting the 90125 album from Yes (whose title was ironically taken from a .... stock number). Anyway, I found this album lying alongside the road while I was stationed with the Air Force in Okinawa. It only took one listen to know this was going to be one of my "classics". Light, breezy, jazzy -- fun. You can tell Takanaka had a blast recording this - there is not a bad track anywhere. I put the album onto a cassette and used to take it on my walks through the Okinawan forests, wondering if any "
rainbow
goblins
" would appear. It is definitely worth a listen.
