Outstanding Continuation of Epic Story

I just finished listening to Faith of the Fallen and found it to be another excellent novel by Terry Goodkind. The Sword of Truth series of books, of which Faith of the Fallen is the 6th of eleven has wet my imagination for the next in line. Pillars of Creation. I stumbled onto the series at my local library when I checked out The Sword of Truth CD edition. Since then I have found a way to listen to the rest of the series. Unfortunately, the library's collection is incomplete so when I resort to buying the book, I donate the books to the library when I am finished. Waiting for Pillars...

Did Goodkind Consult His Crystal Ball First?

I gave this book a four star rating because the ending and other events in the book were a bit of a stretch, in particular how a certain thug just happened to meet Richard, then join the Imperial Order army, and then form the basis for the ending. An improbable ending, but then this is FANTASY, not realism. I knew going in that the story was not award winning, as it is a clone of many other fantasy stories, with the Wheel of Time series coming to mind first. That said, I have enjoyed the Sword of Truth series and Faith Of The Fallen is an enjoyable read.

Yes, this book is political, very political. Certain previous reviewers seem to think that Goodkind should keep his political views to himself, as apparently they don't agree with his views. Well, no one is twisting anyone else's arm and forcing them to read this book, so if you don't like the politics, find something else to read. That is what I do.

This book is a chilling, cautionary tale about freedom lost and of the consequences of willingly forfeiting it for the dubious cause of "the common good". It is an apt parody of current events in our country and world and an entertaining primer of basic economics and what can happen when a government meddles in a free market and removes the incentive for innovation and problem solving. A free market with only enough regulation to make sure that it is fair for all will correct its problems on its on as they appear if left alone.

This is an entertaining story that is hard to put down, as captivating for the political and economic insights as for the fantasy elements. It is a story of courage, perseverance and self-sacrifice against incredible odds and heartless brutality. It is a story of both the frailty and strength of the human spirit and the desire to overcome adversity. It even demonstrates the devastating long term ill effects that bad and uncaring parents can have on a person.

In this story, Emperor Jagang greatly escalates his treachery as he moves boldly toward implementing his plan of subduing and conquering the Midlands and the D'Haran Empire. We get the back story on Jagang and the Imperial Order, Nicci, and several other characters as well as the usual introduction of new characters that may or may not appear in future installments of the story. We also get character studies of Zedd, Kahlan, Richard, Verna, and others and find out what makes them tick. Oh yes, Kahlan is trained by Richard and becomes a certified bad**s with impeccable resolve. It turns out that she is a brilliant military strategist too. Who would of thunk it? Yes, this is one of the plot lines that is a bit of a stretch.

This book should be read by all students of government, history, and political science. Though it is book six in the series, it should be easy enough for new readers to follow without knowing all the details of previous SOT novels. Goodkind is very good at recapping key story elements without insulting fans of the series who know already.

I heartily recommend the whole Sword of Truth series, but this book is so good on so many levels that if you only read one book of the series, this would probably be the one. It reaffirms the requirement of free people to think for themselves, do for themselves, and not be dependent on the largess of government. Otherwise, we have only the loss of freedom and tyranny to look forward to. What with the liberal left's political agenda in this country to corrupt and desecrate every ideal we cherish on which our country was founded, it seems we're already headed down a similar road to ruin, official corruption, and decay as described in this story in such an eye opening way. Can enough people who care and dare to think for themselves, instead of accepting what we are told to think by the media, turn the tide of unsettling current events in this country which are paralleled in this story??

Huh! 5 stars!!

You know that you don't like a book when halfway through it your beginning to tell yourself that the only reason that your gonna continue is because your not someone that starts something and don't want to finish it. I am getting sick and tired of Richard and Kahlan being separated for some stupid freaking reason. So everybody that give this book 5 stars must really love the fact that this happens in all the previous books. I'm reading to get what..life..oh wait from a freaking statue? If you guys are gonna tell me..that the people in the Old World only saw what the Order told and showed them..okay then what about the revolt? What did those people see? They saw life. Richard didn't do anything. It was Victor who was the first to say that life is his and that's what got everybody to react. Victor was part of the revolt so he knew.Richard only talked as usual and got me on my nerves. Then the statue..are you kidding me? I wish I had wizards fire to set this book a blaze! Of course at the end its another happy Richard and Kahlan and Cara reunited so they can be separtated in Book 7. Can someone please kill Jagang!!! Are you people telling me that Jagang is a better villian that Darken Rahl? So that's what I'm going to be reading for the next 5 books that he will be the main villain in the story? No wizard of extreme power.. but some dream walker that uses his ability to control people. Lets hear about Shota finding out about Kahlan got pregnant and they fight or something! The only thing that got me really interested on going on is the fact that I hate not finishing a book and that they actually killed someone of importance in my opinion..Warren. Where is Nathan? Bring in some real villians..freaking Jagang? It was cool at first..but BAGS! I'm sorry but that's it for me with the Wizards First rule Series. Book one and two and even three as much as that book boring was better than this one.
