I love this stopwatch!

I really like the look and feel of it. It has a really good 'heft' to it and feels like it is build like a battleship. If you threw it at somebodys head it would leave a dent, unlike the cheap plastic ones out there. The large display is very easy to read. The buttons are very positive to use and have a nice 'click' to them. It looks like the old fashioned mechanical stopwatches, but is only a third the price. 4 out of 5 because I wish it had a stand-by mode (it is always on) and Emerson do not seem to have a website, and I have lost the original manual and want to reset the default count-down time to something else. Guess I will just have to sit and play with button combinations for 20 minutes or so ...

Clear & easy to read...

I've had this Emerson #4002 stopwatch for over a year now and I love it.

The display is bright, clear, and the digits are big and easy to read. The liquid crystal digits really stand out (contrast) against the background so I don't have to hold the watch face at an angle and squint like some liquid crystal displays. The watch is nice to hold and the buttons are tall and easy to find, especially for someone with large hands. You can comfortably hold the watch with your fingers between the buttons and it won't slip from your grip. If you plan on slipping the stop watch in and out of a small, tight pocket (like tight denim jean front-pockets) you may find the buttons somewhat cumbersome as they will trip you up by catching on the pocket lip.

This stopwatch is heavy... if you swing it around like a bolo you could probably knock out a small horse or certainly break a window. If someone tries to mug me at night I can pull a "David and Goliath" with this watch. I would not run with this watch hanging from my neck unless I plan on holding it in my hand the entire time because the constant bouncing would break my ribs. If you exit a car while wearing the watch on your neck, don't turn around too quickly or it will swing 'round and dent your side panel. It also won't explode into pieces in this same scenario like some of the cheap lightweight plastic stopwatches.

One morning I ran to the pail to take out the garbage before the sanitation truck came. I quickly bent over to pick something up then turned around to run back in the house and I almost knocked out my front teeth with this watch. Seriously, don't hang this watch from your neck if you plan on doing "suicide" cross-training or running similar zig-zag patterns that require you to bend over or you'll hit yourself in the face and easily chip a tooth.

I love the various countdown features... similar to some digital parking meters when it reaches zero it can either go into "negative time" so you see how late you are (like me) or it can start counting back up from zero indefinitely (at least 24 hrs), or just ricochet back and forth from the duration you set it to originally and down to zero and back again, sounding the alarm each time. For example I can set it to ten minutes and it will ring every ten minutes at the 10:00 and 00:00 marks which is helpful when I'm intermittently stirring a pot or mixing photo chemicals for a long duration.

Other thoughts:
I recently brought the watch to a local jewelry store to have the battery replaced because the numbers were slowly getting lighter over a period of a couple weeks. I like that the digits get lighter slowly when the battery needs changing instead of just waking up and finding that the battery is dead. When I got the watch back the numbers were nice and dark again but the alarm beeps were very faint. Perhaps when they changed the battery they muffled or blocked the internal speaker somehow. If you have the battery replaced at a local store make sure you check the beep volume to make sure it was put back together correctly or you won't hear it go off when you need it.

The shiny metal finish has held up well for me and fingerprints come off easily with a soft rag. The bling of this watch attracts attention, so just as an FYI if you're wearing it while driving and get pulled over, the cop is gonna take one look at the "Too Fast Too Furious" hanging from your neck and it's gonna be a no-questions-asked speeding ticket. Telling the cop that it's for timing your quarter mile on foot not on wheels is gonna be futile.

Stopwatch is ok

It's ok as far as stopwatches go, but the inability to turn it off makes the battery life short.
