Excellent Book
This book started a bit slow but by the end it was just speeding along. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to anyone interested in Africa, a true adventure or just a bit of light reading.
A Great Story
Nhamo is a
girl eleven
years old. Nobody takes care of her because her mother and father are dead. Nhamo must leave her village because her family will make her marry a bad man with three wives. She must live alone with baboons. They are dangerous. Fortunately, Crocodile Guts tells her what to do. He is dead too, but she is using his boat.
I like how Nhamo dares to go away. I like her because she knows what do that is right. I believe people help her, spirits like Crocodile Guts who know what to do. It helps that she listens.
I like this book because Nhamo is brave and smart, I learned that you can get what you want in life. I can do what Nhamo did, but in my own life, in my own way.

EXCELLENT!
I just love this book. I am usually picky about
books
but there is just something about this book that I love. Moreover, I usually hate any novel that has to do with anything but romance. Still, this books is just so beautifully written that I have read it so many times I lost count.
great book
A
Girl
Named
Disaster
was a very good book. In fact it is a
Newberry Award
Winner. It lets you travel to Africa without leaving home. The book is about a secret murder and a forced marriage, causing a young girl to flee to Zimbabwe. What should have been a short trip turns into a long journey with many challenges. By using the spirits of her elders the young girl finds her way. I liked this book because of the facts brought into the story through writing. Also I became very attached to the characters and beliefs. This is an awesome book and I recommend it for people of all ages!

Nhamo's mother is dead, and her father is gone. She is a virtual slave in her small African village. Before her twelfth birthday, Nhamo learns that she must marry a cruel man with three other wives--and decides desperately to run away. Alone on the river, in a stolen boat, she is swept into the uncharted heart of a great lake. There, she battles drowning, starvation, and wild animals, and comes to know Africa's mystical, luminous spirits. Nancy Farmer's masterful storytelling makes this a truly spellbinding novel--and readers will be cheering for Nhamo from beginning to end. A gripping adventure, equally a survival story and a spiritual voyage.Nhamo is a stunning creation--while she serves as a fictional ambassador from a foreign culture, she is supremely human. An unforgettable work. --Publishers Weekly, starred review
