Life and Death in Stalingrad

At times heart wrenching, intense, and personal, Days and Nights revolves around Captain Alexei Ivanovich Saburov as he commands his battalion in the battle for Stalingrad. The novel is written strictly from the Russian point of view. It's obviously written to represent a patriotic view of the war from the Soviet perspective. It certainly demonstrates the tremendous sacrifices made by the Russians as they fought to hold their ground against the German forces in Stalingrad.

Along with the gripping battle scenes Simonov weaves a touching love story as Saburov meets and falls in love with a hospital assistant, Anya Klimenko.

I really enjoyed this novel. It gave me a greater appreciation for the sacrifices made by the Russians in World War II. If you enjoy Soviet and Russian literature or simply would like to read a good military/love story novel, Days and Nights is certainly worth the price of admission with many copies available on Amazon for under $1!

Please note: Days and Nights is listed at least several times on Amazon. It's worth your time to do a quick search to find the best copy/price. For example it's listed as "Days and Nights" and "Days & Nights". They all appear to be the same book which was published in the 1940's.
