Sculpture covers types of images: Buddhist, Butsu [Buddhas], Bosatsu [Bodhisattvas], Ten [guardian kings], Myo-o [deities]. The materials and techniques. Asuka period: bronze and wood; early Nara : bronze, middle Nara: clay, dry-lacquer, bronze & wood. Late Nara: wood and rarely stone. Heian: & later: wood.
