From the supplier: Suffering is a universal phenomenon, but the world's poor are not only subject to more suffering, but they are often consigned to suffer in silence. The stories of two Haitian poor people illustrate this fact. Acephie Joseph was a poor woman who worked as a domestic servant and died from AIDS. Her story is remarkably similar to many other Haitian victims of AIDS. Chouchou Louis was also a poor Haitian who was killed for his remarks about the repressive Haitian regime. It is important to link the role poverty, racism and political repression play in suffering.
