amazing story

This book is simply amazing. The story line, plot, as a whole is astoundingly detailed and not disappointing at all. The characters are so well introduced and emotional. I love how the story was written and presented, with metaphors, and even stories behind words. For some reason, this book slightly reminds me of "A Mango-Shaped Space" by Wendy Mass, not so much because of the story line, but more because of the way its written. So if you liked "a mango-shaped space" (which i LOVED) you will enjoy So B. It as well. So B It is great, to say the least :)

Unique, Enjoyable Read.. Soof.

Heidi had me captivated by page two. The story of "So B. It" is a heartwarming tale with richly developed characters that deal with real-world issues. In as many ways that it was a wonderful story, however; there were just as many serious issues with the story that make it far from being classified as "realistic fiction." *(No twelve year old should be unaccompanied by an adult and travel through a neighborhood he/she is unfamiliar with, let alone halfway across the country. Not only completely "fantasy" but also unhealthy was Heidi's winning streak. Combine her dangerous trek with the blatantly illegal way in which she gets money (gambling, and lying multiple times in order to do so) are less than admirable. The illegality of underage gambling as well as the extreme danger a child in her situation is subject to definitely weakened the story for me. This story could easily have gone very bad very quickly. Heidi's luck extended much further than coin tosses and slot machines- it extended to keeping her protected in her journey. I just wish her decisions had been more admirable for children reading this book. )*

Despite its flaws (which I don't intend to dwell on, but I think are very important to note), I gobbled up the story and found each and every character to be delightfully dynamic and lovable. I was glad to have a box of tissues nearby as the book came to a close (for the ending and the issues mentioned above, I recommend this book for ages 12 and up). Sarah Weeks has an undeniable talent, and this was a very good book, just flawed in a few places.

Twinkie

It is a very inspirational book for young readers searching through their past. It is nearly the BEST book that I have ever read!

Excellent, highly recommend for young readers

I bought this book for my 11 year old neice. I read it before I sent it to her. I couldn't put this book down. I read it in a day. Very easy read, but very complex and heart wrenching story of a young girl looking for answers about how she came to be and who her family is. My neice absolutely loved this book, and gave it to all her girlfriends who also loved it.

Many Years Later and I still think about it...

I read this book about 4 years ago, and i had forgoten the name of it but as soon as i saw the title, i remembered all the details. Really though, this is an amazing book, and i still think about it when i go on trains or meet a nice person with cookies or do any online shopping. The twisted and sad love story in the latter part of this book is amazing and charming. The relationship between the characters present and back home is memorable and the story is one you will always always remember.

You couldn?t really tell about Mama?s brain just from looking at her, but it was obvious as soon as she spoke. She had a high voice, like a little girl?s, and she only knew twenty-three words. I know this for a fact, because we kept a list of the things Mama said tacked to the inside of the kitchen cabinet. Most of the words were common ones, like good and more and hot, but there was one word only my mother said, soof.

Although she lives an unconventional lifestyle with her mentally disabled mother and their doting neighbor, Bernadette, Heidi has a lucky streak that has a way of pointing her in the right direction. When a mysterious word in her mother?s vocabulary begins to haunt her, Heidi?s thirst for the truth leads her on a cross-country journey in search of the secrets of her past.

A dramatic tour de force by the best-selling author of Regular Guy.
