The Scrapbook Hub Reviews Storage Desk Separates from Target

When I was designing my new scrapbook work area, I did some research at local stores and stumbled upon an array of storage cube separates at Target. Each piece in the system sold for the reasonable price of $24.99 or less, and with 4 cubes you could create the base of a desk. The box also shows the storage cubes used just as a shelving system. To create a desk, you simply purchase the Set of 2 Scrapbook Desktops and follow the instructions to attach the desktop between two stacked sets of cubes.

I bought two 4-Shelf Organizer Cubes, two 3-Drawer Organizers, 1 Set of Two Desktop Organizers, 1 Quad Drawer Storage Cube, and 1 Filing Storage Cube.

General Comments: The storage cubes come in white only. This was fine with me, but some people prefer a certain color wood to match their other furniture. These storage pieces are made of sturdy wood/particle board. All the drawers have silver metal accents with a place to insert a label.

When you assemble the cubes, you will only need a Phillips screwdriver; but depending on which cubes you actually purchase, you may become really good buds with your friend Phillip before it's all over. Hint: The more drawers the cube has, the longer it's going to take to assemble. Choose wisely! I would suggest enlisting a friend, spouse, or even the kids to help, because assembling the cubes can be rather tedious.

Once assembled, the cubes are very sturdy. Each cube comes with interlocking pieces to make them stackable with others. Another nice feature is that all the drawers are constructed like wooden boxes, so you can pull a drawer out and bring it with you. Below are some more comments on each individual product.

4-Shelf Organizer Cube: I purchase 2 of these to stack and use as a paper tower. They are ideal for 12x12 cardstock. Each drawer is about 3" in height. Because I store my papers by color, eight drawers works out perfect for me.

3-Drawer Organizer Cube: I purchased 2 of these drawer organizers as well. They took much longer to assemble due to the complexity and number of drawers. Each drawer is about 4" high. These are also ideal for storing 12x12 paper, especially if you have a large stack of one kind. I plan to use mine to store stamps, inks, and stickers.

Set of Two Desktop Organizers: These are a bargain. They are half the depth of a typical storage cube and sit nicely on top of any of the other products. Plus you get 2 of them! One of them is similar to a small bookshelf and the other has more of a cubby hole setup. I plan to use the first to store all my little containers of embellishments and the latter to store scrap paper.

Quad Drawer Storage Cube: By far the winner of "Longest time to assemble." Luckily I only had one of these to construct! Once assembled, the cube is great. Each drawer is 6x6 (inches) and are ideal for scissors, glues, and other tools.

Filing Storage Cube: My only complaint so far is that I'm not sure where to buy folders that fit. The great thing about the file cube is that it *will* comfortably hold 12x12 layouts. I just need the right size folders now!

Overall: A very good purchase, especially for the amount of money. I've looked at other scrapbook cube storage systems that cost twice as much or more for nearly the same thing. To create a scrapbook desk, you only need 4 cubes plus the desktop attachment, which come to less than $125. That's a steal! The great thing about buying your storage unit in cubes is that you can customize your workspace. This set of products is great for any scrapbooker

Note: You'll notice that I did not purchase the 2 Scrapbook Desktops, but rather purchased a piece of white plywood from Home Depot to lay across two sets of stacked cubes. This was simply my preference because I wanted a larger area to work than 15" deep. Nice ...

The product was pretty straightforward in it's assembly, no hitches. I worked great with the other storage cubes I purchased. It suited my needs to a "T".
