"We are the Cloud of Darkness..."

This game was okay. I thought that this game would be great. Nope, it wasn't. It's not bad, but it's not good.

Okay, here's the good stuff. It has ONE beautiful FMV that is incredible on the DS screen. The battle system, which is still turn-based, is as good as always, and this is the last title except for X to use the turn-based system. Also, it reincorporates the use of the Crystals, the most known theme of Final Fantasy. The music is still good, though not as good as the previous installments.

Now for the bad. The storyline is much less in-depth than II was, when it should be more. The characters (Luneth, Arc, Refia, and Ingus) do not compel as much as Firion, Maria, Guy, and Leon did (although they did not compel too much, either). Their stories are weak.

When you actually play, you regularly go to dungeons and caves (another recurring theme of Final Fantasy). These dungeons are usually time-consuming and difficult. When you finally get to the boss, he/she can attack two to three times per turn and really thrash you to a Game Over, meaning a wasted hour of gameplay. Also, Phoenix Downs can only be found in certain areas and cannot be purchased, leaving you with precious few chances to revive KO'd characters. However, if you a player who enjoys a good challenge (like me) you will like this game. It is simply frustrating, that's all.

However, this comes to me as an okay game and the graphics (except for the FMV) suck. So, don't expect a treat, but don't expect a bomb. It is just average.

FF fanboy

I love final fantasy, so I can't hate it. Being objective though, this is a great portable fantasy whch makes me want to remake of four even more.

Very challenging, but refreshing.

It's nice to finally (haha) have Final Fantasy III in English. It is clear that the focus of this game was to try something new with the series, Square tends to experiment every now and then before they drop a truly amazing Final Fantasy title (VIII and IX before X, and XII before the forthcoming XIII). This was the first FF with a custom job system. The job system is ok, but most of the job classes are pretty pointless until the end of the game (Scholar??? come on!). The story is pretty standard, and really seems a bit too close to the original FF, but it's not bad. Graphically, this is one of the most stunning games on the DS. The character models are all the same, but with different faces and outfits, a definite gripe of mine especially since they all look like weeble-wobbles. The music is right on par with the rest of the series, and the story has quite a twist at the end and really becomes interesting. The battle system is just fine, this was the last FF without the Active Battle System, so you can really think about your strategy for each round without getting bombarded with attacks. That being said, this game is menacingly difficult. It's not really the number of random encounters or the difficulty of them, it's the lack of save points within dungeons. If you get all the way through a dungeon and lose to the boss...you will have to start all over again. I would advise anyone to do some mindless leveling up before you go to any new dungeons, especially toward the end of the game. All in all, I enjoyed this game, it's a solid RPG. People that aren't big fans of the series will probably be very frustrated with this game, but it's worth the struggle in the end.

Final Fantasy III

a good fun game overall, slow at the begining and difficult to accomplish begging tasks, but very fun.

The only Final Fantasy that was never localized in the United States, Final Fantasy III has been reborn, incorporating the latest in portable gaming technology. Using the features of the Nintendo DS to their fullest, Final Fantasy III features graphics that have been reworked and remodelled in 3D, while maintaining the mythical Final Fantasy look and feel. This is the fans' chance to complete the circle. The legend of Final Fantasy III is reborn.
