great book

I really got a lot out of this book. It explained Sensory Processing Disorders and how to approach them, differentiating different types clearly and giving case examples that helped a lot. I am recommending Miller's book to many people and I am grateful to my colleague Lois Gold for recommending it to me.

Must have book for any parent of a child with SPD

I have a child with significant SPD issues. This book is my "go-to book" for any and all questions I have about what is going on with my son and how to help him with different expereinces and situations he encounters. This doctor is amazingly knowledgable, compassionate, and helpful in regards to children with SPD. Her book explains all the subgroups of SPD with clarity. This is a complex disorder and having it broke down into subgroups is very helpful in understanding SPD further.

Great book with lots of valueable information!

This book was a lifesaver for our family. The language is easy to read and very informative. There are lots of details about sensory processing disorders and comparisons with autism and ADHD, how the different conditions overlap one another and how they stand alone. There are detailed examples of different types of SPD and how (and more imporantly why) behaviors are present with this disorder. It was a real window into understanding my son and helping our family work with him instead of against him. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a family member with sensory issues.

Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) is a condition affecting at least one in twenty children who experience sensations in taste, touch, sound, sight, smell, movement, and body awareness in a vastly different manner from how other children their ages do. What may be typical activities for most kids are a daily struggle that may result in social, emotional, or academic problems. Dr. Lucy Jane Miller, the best-known SPD researcher in the world, brings together a lifetime of study to teach parents and others the signs and symptoms of SPD and its four major subtypes; ways the disorder is diagnosed and treated; sensory strategies for living with the condition; and methods to help SPD kids thrive.
