Love these chickens--my heroes!

Where has this book been? Ran into this quite by accident and so happy to have it. Can hardly wait to show it to my kids. Funny story, with a few repeating phrases (but not too many, and stated somewhat differently). Illustrations are TOPS, and the chickens, well, they turn into heroes. Big Chickens

Three Silly Chicks Review

One day, a wolf sneaks into the farmyard. Four freaked-out feathered friends flap out of the coop and into the woods to hide. The harried hens head deeper into the woods where they find a ditch. They tutter and putter and flutter until one by one, they fall in. They meet a field full of frightening cows. The big chickens squeak and squirm and squawk until one by one, they run into the cow. The panicky poultry head from one terror to the next until, at last, they find safety in a deep, dark cave. Or do they?

These silly chicks (no relation) lead readers on a wild goose chase through the countryside. Cole's playful watercolors are perfectly paired to Helakoski's spunky text. The prose is sprinkled generously with snippets of rhyme, more than a little alliteration (say that five times fast) and a heaping helping of silliness. An eggceptional read aloud.

Very funny and entertaining

My 4 year olds LOVE this story. We heard it at a library storytime and knew this was a book we had to have. The story is adorable with a message about overcoming one's fears and the illustrations keep it light and funny. An excellent read!

Brave Chickens

The four chickens in this book have many of the same fears young readers experience, but they are able to deal with them all in a very funny manner. Young children can readily identify with the plight of the chickens and will cheer their victory in overcoming their fears and with the friendship the four animals have.

Good book

I think this is a great book. My kindergarten students really enjoyed it.
