Super-Completely and Totally funny!

My 4 year old daughter loves this book so much, while already loving books, I believe this one has made her a book lover for life. The artwork is hilarious and the story itself is really funny. We can't help but crack up each time (like 4 x's a week) we read it. Great stuff.

Not a keeper

I bought this book but it is not one of my favorite and not one that I need to keep in my collection. I was just bored with it and didn't really find any point to the story.

Messy girls

My younger kids (boy, 4 and girl,3) love the book. However, the book is a bit too long and the kids sometimes lose interest before the story ends. My bigger boy of 6 didn't really take to it - but then, it may be because the main characters are girls.

Neat and Messy

Got this book just because it was a Viorst and because I love her alexander books. The first time I did read it before reading it to my daughter I was not sure how my daughter would react to the book. She has not siblings as yet and can't really categorize her into either category ( neat or messy - she is a little of both)
but loved the way sophie makes a mess of every thing and how the older sister is as hoity-toity as older sisters get.

but would have loved it more if there was more of sophie's good qualities described that way there would be a greater balance to sophie's character.

Delightful Pictures, Lovable Sisters

Older sister Olivia shares stories about her incredibly messy younger sister Sophie. The tales of Sophie's misadventures are humorous, and tempered by the obvious fondness between the practically perfect Olivia and impetuous Sophie. The pictures are wonderfully drawn in black and white, with Sophie painted in vivid color. Watch for a mortified Olivia in the background of most pictures. Sophie tries to emulate her older sister, but her own individual style always comes through. And while Olivia lists her sister's faults, she does not neglect to mention her strengths and virtues as well.

There's nobody in the world as messy as Sophie. Just ask her older sister Olivia, who is, of course, perfectly neat. When Olivia opens the door to Sophie's room, it's hard to find her amid all the stuff on the floor and spilling out of Sophie's drawers and closet. And it's not just in her room that Sophie is messy. It's at school, on Halloween, and even when she makes breakfast in bed for her mother on Mother's Day.

Listen to Olivia. She's an older sister and she knows: Sophie is not just messy. She is super-completely and totally the MESSIEST. Oh...there are some good things about Sophie, too. She's kind and nice and funny and great at puzzles and dancing. But Olivia is willing to bet her best bracelet that Sophie will never be practically perfect, like her.

Judith Viorst's totally messy Sophie and oh-so-virtuous Olivia will speak to slobs and neatniks alike. Robin Preiss Glasser's wonderful drawings, full of delicious details, bring both of these sisters to vibrant life.
