Readers Choice First Place Winner!
OUT OF THE WRECKAGE: The Pop Stories is the First Place Winner of the February Readers Choice Award at AmazonClicks! http://amazonclicks.com/Readerschoice.html
That's a lot of votes :-) Makes me feel good. It is also gratifying to me, the author, when someone comes to me and says they want to buy copies of my book to give to other people--both because they enjoyed it, and because they identified strongly with the situation or characters.
The book is available as a paperback, too.
Relationships, aging and life
Totally enjoyable true story about life, living and aging. Despite of the fact I know none of the characters in the tale, I was dragged into the true story of a daughter-in-law and her "Pops". Difficult to put down...I read it in a couple of day.
Age happens--then everything else hits the fan. When my father-in-law's life changes overnight, mine does, too, but I try to shed an honest and humorous light over the "Dark Ages" of life. Because we're all caregivers, Pop's stories are not just about parents or aging, but about adapting to change and having the right attitude. This is not a how-to book or a case history, but these mostly light-hearted stories can offer support and encouragement to others who are--or will be--facing a similar situation. They may even help provide closure for those who have already ?been there, done that.? You?ll see Pop romance the Little Debbie brownies, give the gift of used dentures, and battle against bathing. And he enjoys being the "only rooster in the henhouse." Besides Pop, you'll meet the Old Lady Gang at Mayberry, and become acquainted with Bossy Barb, the elf Santa doesn't talk about. Pop?s stories candidly describe how he handles his increasing infirmity, his adjustment to communal living, and his approaching death from pancreatic cancer. I learn that when love shoulders the burden, and laughter lightens the load, even grief is bearable. If you?re looking for soppy or sappy, you won?t find it here. We?re all riding the same train, so you may as well join us on the journey--just expect to get lost a lot--the Barb way. So, grab a cup of coffee--and maybe a brownie--get comfortable, then join Pop and me on our simple adventures--as we haul ourselves out of the wreckage.
