"Pretty World" Sergio Mendes 40th Anniversary concert at the Hollywood Bowl last Sunday, June 25, 2006 was a blast! To put a few words in a capsule that would describe that memorable evening, here goes . . .
Full-packed venue.
Tickets sold out.
Wonderful, alive and responsive audience.
Great performances of Sergio Mendes and his guests.
A night to remember.
It was a very memorable concert for I have ...

The Very Best of Sergio Mendes & Brazil 66 7 reviews Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
Phantom Sound & Vision, 2004
The K-Man was right. This CD is a timeless, time-capsule treasure trove of pure pop pleasure. Sergio Mendes is a bossa nova Bacharach - not just because he covered both types of music, but because he shares whith the American an interest in revivifying the aesthetic of Tin Pan Alley, tempering it with a 60s pop melancholy (both especially cherish the inherent sadness of brass), and, in Mendes' case, cooling it with ...

Fool on the Hill 9 reviews Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
A&M, 2004
another gem from the Brasil 66 collection.... If you are looking for a great example of latin/fusion from the mid to late 1960s, I highly reccomend FOOL ON THE HILL, by Brasil 66. Brazilian bandleader Sergio Mendes led this band, made up of both American and Brazilian singers. This included Lani Hall, one of the most well-loved singers of samba and pop music (made famous through the popularity of this group). The result of this fusion of ...

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 - Greatest Hits 51 reviews Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
A&M, 1990
Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66's hits are pretty much included in this CD. What a wonderful beat and what memories. I highly recommend this CD to anyone wanting a good selection of his early hits. I found all the ones I loved on this CD plus a couple of others that were a joy to discover.

Crystal Illusions 6 reviews Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
A&M, 2006
One for the Purists The Brasil '66 repertoire is riddled with contradictions. Each of the legendry group's albums has its triumphs, its hidden treasures and its disappointments. Crystal Illusions is no exception. Track one is an uninspired cover of the Otis Redding classic "Dock of the Bay". I rate it the only disappointment on this disc and believe that it should have been left to the man whose ownership of it is ...

Millennium Collection-20th Century Masters (Eco-Friendly Packaging) 2 reviews Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
A&M, 2007
Smooth and Clear Music Who could take the music of the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, and other great artists of the 60's and improve on it. Answer -- Sergio Mendes and Brazil '66. If you are like me and older than fifty, then this CD contains all that you need to travel back in time and experience the wonderful moments of your teenage summers. If you are younger, then sit back and pour yourself a margarita and imagine ...

Ye-Me-Le 5 reviews Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
A&M, 2006
A high energry treat from beginning to end "Ye-Me-Le" was almost a return to the original group sound heard on "Herb Alpert Presents" and "Equinox" and, in my opinion, is a much better album than its 2 predecessors, "Fool on the Hill" and "Crystal Illusion".
The album starts out with a bang with a cover of Glen Campbell's "Wichita Lineman" that puts the original to shame. Mendes follows this with a mind blowing cover of "Norwegian ...

Four Sider 15 reviews Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
A&M, 1990
Too many covers? Bah! Almost every track on this 4-sider (neat how 4 lp sides now take up just one CD) got plenty of radio play in La La Land when I was growing up so this really is a "greatest hits" album from my youth. And who cares if they're covers or not? They're excellent covers. Great arrangements. Terrific vocals. Top notch players. Love it!

Curb Special Markets, 1993
Sweet Memories I was 15 when I discovered "Sergio Mendes & Brazil 65". I'd never heard of Sergio Mendes, but there was something about the cover that intrigued me. This was the beginning of a love afair with Brazilian music that has never faded over the years. I played the heck out of this record. I still have it, battered cover and all in my collection. After the dawn of CD's I often looked for it in record ...

The Very Best 1 review Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66
Import [Generic], 2003
Great CD & Really a Greatest Hits Collection! There seem to be a lot of greatest hits collection of Sergio Mendes that frankly aren't ... but this qualifies. If you love old school 60's bossa nova-fun trip hop-easy listening and sunny pop, this is a great collection - these are really their greatest hits ... though the 2-disc "Very Best of Sergio Mendes & Brazil 66 [IMPORT]" (also from Amazon) also contains all these tracks plus another 20 ...

Fool on the Hill 5 reviews Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
Rebound Records, 1995
Superb Album "Fool on the Hill" is my favorite album by "Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66." If you like Brazilain-Latin music you will love this. Actually I think it's a better album than their "Greatest Hits." It is a real shame that the music industry doesn't promote music like this anymore. The music is full of soul, a very creative and innovative effort. It's just priceless.
