Worrisome Heart 38 reviews Melody Gardot
Verve, 2008
Year of the Newbie Through the first 5 months of 2008, the most remarkable thing about this year to date, in the field of vocal jazz, is the plethora of really promising young singers, mining the field of jazz-pop. (Though actually, this trend dates back earlier than that; it's just that it's really prominent this year). Raya Yarbrough, Hope Waits, and now Melody Gardot have all put out first-rate debut c.d.'s, ...

Call Me Irresponsible 241 reviews Michael Bublé
Reprise / Wea, 2007
I'll call you great Michael Bublé's new album can be played on a loop for hours. His voice has such control and a wonderful tone, there's hardly any song he can't sing. My personal favorites have to be his original hits, "Lost" and "Everything," since they have a nice updated sound. For a fast-paced salsa, go with "It Had Better Be Tonight (Meglio Stasera)." The jazz song, "I'm Your Man" is so passionate, and all ...

Michael Bublé 547 reviews Michael Bublé
Reprise / Wea, 2003
more music for lovers only Michael Bublé's self titled album truly shows off his excellent set of pipes! Michael has an excellent voice and it's great that he shares his gift with us. The sound quality on this CD is excellent; and I like the artwork, too.
"Fever" is a number made so famous by the great Peggy Lee; and if she heard Michael sing this she'd be very pretty! Michael's rendition plays with the tempo and adds a ...

Kind of Blue 676 reviews Miles Davis, John Coltrane, ...
Sony, 1997
I don't know much about jazz, but I'd be more than "Kind of Blue" if I didn't have this CD "Kind of Blue" is described by people who know a lot more about jazz than I do as the definitive jazz CD. It and "Coltrane Plays the Blues" are my two favorites. Just can't beat Miles and the Trane.
Just put it in and leave it on the continuous play feature. It's that good.

The Anthology 6 reviews Return to Forever
Concord Records, 2008
This IS the definitive collection! If you've heard the original tracks this blows them away. The new technology and standards really show up on this recording. The dynamic range is awesome and needs to be heard to be appreciated. We have the original recordings and put them up against the newly remastered/remixed ones here and that's where you can really tell the difference. And the price is unbelievable. To get this much ...

Esperanza 7 reviews Esperanza Spalding
Heads Up, 2008
Spicy Hot. I was listening to NPR and heard an interview about this prodigy name Esperanza. What an amazing story. I was compelled to immediately buy this album solely based on her story.
AM I GLAD I DID!
As a bass player I found Cachao Lopez to be my all time favorite, however the freshness of her bass style and contrasting vocal melodies that permeate this disc are a joy to which one can not help ...

Miles from India (TWO CD SET) 11 reviews Gary Bartz, Ron Carter, ...
FOUR QUARTERS ENT, 2008
I would go "Miles From India" to listen to this CD If this CD doesn't win a Grammy, I will be stunned. It's a who's who of Miles Davis former musicians and the best jazz artists from India. The way the jazz intertwines with the Indian instruments is fantastic. It is so unique, yet so natural. I've purchased no only my own, but 3 others as gifts...that should say something there.

Bringing Back the Funk 9 reviews Brian Culbertson
Grp Records, 2008
A great mix of contemporary jazz and 70's funk flavor Brian Culbertson's style can be heard in each track, but the exact amount of 70's spice and flavor gives this disk a great nouvelle style that must be heard.

Language 2 reviews Lorraine Feather
Jazzed Media, 2008
21st Century Lorraine Hitherto, Lorraine Feather has been known as the ultra-witty lyricist and vastly underrated jazz singer who has brought modern vocalese sensibilities to chestnuts of Duke Ellington and Fats Waller. And, in that regard, "Such Sweet Thunder" and "New York City Drag," respectively, are two of my favorite c.d.'s of this decade.
But the day of reckoning is here. There is only so long an artist ...

Floating Point 10 reviews John McLaughlin
Abstract Logix, 2008
Fine Playing - Excellent Album John McLaughlin's recordings are a reflection of his changing interests and pursuits. However, his playing has been a constant throughout his career, ever setting new standards of creativity and excellence. "Floating Point" presents McLaughlin's most lucid and musically interesting improvisations so far. His playing is highly chromatic and yet, at the same time, very bluesy. This recording is a ...

press "play" Thoroughly interesting, eminently entertaining, highly recommended!
The description that this album seems like a soundtrack to an unseen play is apt. Perfect for close "headphones" listening, or for a long thoughtful drive in the car.

When You Know 14 reviews Dianne Reeves
Blue Note Records, 2008
"Creating and Recording This Album Was Not A Labor of Love ... It Was Just Love" "There is a Gustav Klimt painting I had seen at the Belvedere in Vienna of a young woman moving through life. I remember loving the various depictions of the phases of her life from innocence to increasing maturity. In a similar way, this album progresses through songs which celebrate different phases of love, in much the same way our notions of love change as we move through time." ~ Dianne ...
