Jesse Cook

Koch Records, 2008

A guitarrist performing
This is an amazing album, the one you expect from a well developed artist like Jesse Cook. The first five pieces are astonishing, but above all "rain" is simply a blue marvel. If youre looking for a new fresh flamenco music take it.

Polygram Records, 1997

A Serendipitous Masterpiece
In history, seemingly all great things are happenstance. One could certainly say the same about this serendipitous recording. A quiet, gentle, beautiful record of 8 songs (and 2 reprises) it created a time capsule of that era that surprisingly stands up to todays standards. A great album to relax to, put it on when you need to seriously unwind without drugs or alcohol. It works amazingly well.

La Vida... Es un Ratico24 reviews
Juanes

Universal Latino, 2007

Excelente

Made in Dakar
Orchestra Baobab

Nonesuch, 2008

Released in England last fall to rapturous reviews, Made In Dakar has landed on many British critics year-end, best-of lists. The Guardian called Orchestra Baobab masters of an urban style that pairs rippling, fast-flowing guitar lines with impassioned vocals and sophisticated dance rhythms. These move effortlessly from rumba, reggae and highlife to more indigenous grooves such as mbalax and their own mbalsa, an infectious salsa hybrid heard on ...

Esperanza Spalding

Heads Up, 2008

Spicy Hot.
I was listening to NPR and heard an interview about this prodigy name Esperanza. What an amazing story. I was compelled to immediately buy this album solely based on her story. AM I GLAD I DID! As a bass player I found Cachao Lopez to be my all time favorite, however the freshness of her bass style and contrasting vocal melodies that permeate this disc are a joy to which one can not help ...

Ry Cooder, Manuel Galban

Nonesuch, 2003

Unbearably Cool Guitar
I first heard "Drume Negrita" on my local NPR station (Oregon Public Broadcasting has a great night time lineup) about a year ago and nearly lost it when I heard all that fabulous twang, reverb and slow tremolo, played with such taste and restraint that I knew it must be a master at work. I was not surprised to find out that Ry Cooder was involved, but the CD is even more rewarding than I ...

Rosa Passos

Telarc, 2008

another gem from Rosa Passos...
I stumbled across a new CD by Rosa Passos today - an artist whose material I will buy without hesitation, given the quality of the work she's done over the course of her career. Rosa's voice is simply one of the most beautiful musical instruments on the planet. When world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma first discovered Rosa's music, he wrote to her and said `I've fallen in love with your voice...' - ...

Vicente Fernández

Sony International, 2007

Viva Mexico!
I have been hearing his song "La Derrota" for a couple of weeks now and finally they said who the singer is and I wasn't surprised to hear that it was Vicente Fernandez. This song has to be one of the most powerful and passionate songs Vicente has ever sung. Every time that I listen to it, it reminds me of how beautiful and how wonderful Mexico is. If anyone wants to hear the heart of Mexico, ...

Jesse Cook

Narada, 2005

Vivid, exciting performances, amazing technique
I bought this double album after a friend introduced me to Jesse Cook's musicianship a few months ago. Not only are the songs first-rate but the performances by Mr. Cook are exciting and attention-grabbing. There's an unusually-wide range of styles sprinkled throughout the tracks of these two discs which kept the listening fresh and even surprising at times. I especially liked the ...

Imagina: Songs of Brasil8 reviews
Karrin Allyson

Concord Records, 2008

One of the best records of Brazilian songs in times
Karryn Allyson is a fantastic singer that faced challenges like her version of Ballads, but the challenge in this CD is far more relevant as she sings in Portuguese like a Brazilian soul and picked some tunes that really surprises us. Very well done!
