Mozart - Die Zauberflote Fur Kinder (The Magic Flute for Children)4 reviews
Christian Boesch, Peter Schreier

TDK, 2007

'Magic Flute' For Kids -- From Salzburg and in German
After an acclaimed Magic Flute was mounted at the Salzburg Festival in 1978 by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle and starring singers like Christian Boesch, Ileana Cotrubras, Edda Moser, Peter Schreier, Zdzislawa Donat and Kurt Rydl, and with James Levine conducting the Vienna Philharmonic, the Papageno (Boesch) fashioned a version for children which was given in the Felsenreitschule in Salzburg. No adults ...

Mozart - Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) / Araiza, Te Kanawa, Studer, Ramey, Lind, van Dam, Bär, Marriner19 reviews
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sir Neville Marriner, ...

Philips, 1990

What Mozart had in mind...
I am soooo tired of reading reviews where everyone has to completely demean the singers (i.e., Cheryl Studer) This Zauberflöte is superbly cast. Kiri Te Kanawa is the only Pamina I can bear to listen to. Francisco Araiza is a somewhat sympathetic Tamino and sings well. Samuel Ramey is wonderful as Sarastro and Cheryl Studer is the ideal soprano for the Queen of the Night. As if Maria Callas, ...

Amadeus: The Complete Original Soundtrack Recording41 reviews
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Tom Hulce, ...

Fantasy, 1991

Outstanding soundtrack!
I saw this movie for the first time at sixteen and was immediately captured by the music. Sure, I'd heard Mozart in the past...but never quite so well done! Sir Neville Marriner and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields brought the music to life on a level I've yet to hear matched. The choice of compositions was perfect not only for those appreciating the movie, but also anyone interested ...

Magic Christian Music10 reviews
Badfinger

Capitol, 1991

A Good Album!
Magic Christian Music was the first album to bear the Badfinger name, though 6 of the songs on the album are in fact old Iveys recordings that had already been released on the Maybe Tomorrow album. Some of the recordings were done with Paul McCartney, and he obviously helped the band create their characteristic sound. Great tracks like "Midnight Sun", "Crimson Ship" and "Come and Get it" point ...

A Celtic Family Christmas1 review
Celtic Woman, The High Kings

Manhattan Records, 2008

A Celtic Family Christmas CD
A Celtic Family Christmas CD features 4 songs from Celtic Woman and 2 songs from The High Kings. This CD was available at Target stores for a limited time. I looked at all Target stores in the area and none of them had this CD, even though the employees checked their computers, and it was in stock. I went to Amazon.com, and there it was, available from several sellers.

Christopher Parkening - The Great Recordings ~ By America's Preeminent Guitar Virtuoso15 reviews
Johann Sebastian Bach, François Couperin, ...

EMI Classics, 1993

A gentleman musical agreement!
In guitar ` s playing there have been many renowned performers, gifted of exuberant technique. But curiously the Apollonian playing is not by itself strictly enough. The guitar is the instrument which is closer to heart as any other one. It demands from you passion and sentiment. There have been three well known guitarists, one of them from England and the other one from Spain and the third one ...

MOZART'S The Magic Flute Story10 reviews
Magdalena Falewicz, Heidrun Halx

V.I.E.W. Video, 2001

My child loves it
After reading the reviews here, I rented a copy from Netflix. My 4 year old son was entranced, despite the opera being in German. When he started walking around the house singing the Queen of the Night's aria, I ordered our own copy. While I agree that it is not the best it could be, my son loves opera and wants to learn more. That, to me, is one of the best justifications for buying it. He ...

Amadeus [Soundtrack] [Gold Cd]7 reviews
Samuel Ramey, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, ...

Fantasy, 2002

It is miraculous!
So said Antonio Salieri to Mozart's wife about his music, and this Special Edition Gold Cd set understands this statement. More precisely though, it is Sir Neville Marriner, the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields and the various opera singers who should receive all the praise for this superb achievement. I have never heard such an authentic and high-quality recording of Mozart's music before. ...

Amadeus: More Music From The Original Soundtrack Of The Film Amadeus5 reviews
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giuseppe Giordani, ...

Fantasy, 1991

Der Holle Rache kocht is magnificent!
The one thing I did not like about the original sountrack is the fact that it did not include my favorite aria (from Die Zauberflote) Der Holle Rache kocht. This rendition is simply chilling. The range and articulation of the singer will blow you away, as this is one of the most difficult arias ever written. Buy it for this song, even if you feel it is superfluous, as the first volume was ...

The Top 100 Masterpieces of Classical Music (Box Set)10 reviews
Miklos Perenyi, Bela Kovacs, ...

Delta, 1994

It is the best collection of classic masterpieces.
I had this collection and lost it in 2000 when moving to a new house. I took me a time to find it but after having it again I can say it is the most valuable selection of classic music, it is truly the 100 top masterpieces and the sound is excellent.

Trumpet of the Century1 review
Marc Dupont, Johann Sebastian Bach, ...

EMI Classics France, 2004

Great trumpet playing
It goes without saying that Maurice Andre is one of the greatest trumpet players of the 20th century. This set is a compilation of his famous recordings that span his career. Unfortunately, my linear notes are only in French but that doesn't not detract from the music. The first CD contains classical works (such as the infamous Brandenburg Concerto No. 2) and the second CD contains Jazz ...

Tchaikovsky: Swan Lake16 reviews
Nathalie Nordquist, Anders Nordström

BBC / Opus Arte, 2003

Overall, a very beautiful, traditional Swan Lake
It's funny how Swan Lake, the most beloved of ballets, also recieves the most "tinkering." Siegfried is in love with his mom (or tutor). Rothbart is a sexy pimp-daddy/green swamp thing (in the current American Ballet Theatre production, they are actually played by two different dancers). And then there's the ending. For the Soviets it's happy. In most Western productions it's sad. Sometimes ...

La Stupenda ~ The Supreme Voice of Joan Sutherland53 reviews
Gaetano Donizetti, Jules Massenet, ...

Decca, 2001

La Stupenda at her best
This 2 CD set is entitled "La Stupenda," which creates extremely high expectations. Joan Sutherland meets those expectations on this CD; she is, indeed, "La Stupenda." One of the interesting aspects of this set is Dame Joan's singing some non operatic works (such as "Home Sweet Home" or "Where Are the Songs We Sung?" or "Falling in Love with Love"). In the end, this is a wonderful compilation ...

Magic Christian Music1 review
Badfinger

Indent Series, 1996

Magic moments on debut from Badfinger
This isn't Badfinger's best album, but a fine introduction to the band. Featuring tracks from their first album(MAYBE TOMORROW recorded as the Iveys) and new tracks recorded for film MAGIC CHRISTIAN, this album is a hodge podge of Mersey beat styled pop("Maybe tomorrow", "Dear Angie") Beatles derived pop(McCartney's "Come and get it" written for the band and produced by Macca himself) and the ...

Mozart: Die Zauberflöte5 reviews
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Herbert von Karajan, ...

Deutsche Grammophon, 1990

Wonderful but overlooked Flute
This digital DG recording of Mozart's comic masterpiece is truly an excellent recording, but one that has been sadly overlooked by many people who love to listen to recordings of the opera. The strong cast shows singers like Jose van Dam (as a dark and firm Sarastro) and Edith Mathis (as a sweet-toned Pamina) on top form and in their element when they sing their roles. Francisco Araiza makes as ...

Mozart: Die Zauberflöte1 review
Christian Boesch, Helge von Bomches, ...

RCA, 1989

A decent Magic Flute
This is a nice recording of Mozart's masterpiece. The engineers have included sound effects (wind, thunder etc) that not all other Magic Flute recordings have. Ilieana Cotrubas sings beautifully although there are better Pamina interpretations out there. One will notice that her German is not perfect but I quess that for non-native listeners this will not be a big problem. Zdislawa Donat's hair ...
