Venus Fly Trap 20 Seeds - Dionaea - Carnivorous - RARE1 review

Hirts Gardens

Hirts Gardens

Patience pays off
These types of plants (Dionaea, Sarracenia) need to be put in the cold for a couple weeks before they will sprout. They are not your common house plant and are more difficult to upkeep. They will need constant care at first in order to make sure that fungi does not attack the seed or seedling. If you are looking for a quick grow then this is not the plant for you. For the first year the Venus fly ...

Doing brilliantly
I bought a bunch of carnivorous plants including this one. It's doing very well in a shallow bog of distilled water made from a black plastic bag and a cookie sheet, although it should be noted that I live in a naturally hot and humid climate. It may not be so easy for others. It's the most successful bug catcher of the lot, so much so that I've just bought three more sundews.

Needs a terrarium -- learn from 1-star reviews
My plant looks pretty much like the left-most picture shown -- very cute, a mixture of some green and some dark red with some brick red. Unless your humidity rivals that of a bog, you will probably need a well sealed terrarium to grow this plant. It sounds to me like the 1-star and 2-star reviewers didn't use a terrarium, and their plant died of dehydration. Explicit planting instructions were ...

Always wanted one!
Got one for my daughter after she read about them in a science work book. Arrived with 4 traps and is doing fine even after sitting on my desk for 3 days before opening (I was traveling when it arrived). It is well packaged and if you follow the directions carefully, will have a most interesting plant! Very educational, makes plants alot more interesting than just counting tree rings or ...

Great looking and easy to care for
This is one of my favorite carnivorous plants. It's striking to look at and easy to grow. I have a couple now growing in terrariums. Make sure you have plenty of head room and a bright enough florescent before trying this yourself. These guys grow over a foot high if they get healthy.

as described
The seeds come with exact planting instructions. These are more complicated than I expected, including a cooling period. However, I followed the instructions, and about 1/2 of the seeds sprouted. These have been very slow to grow and I had a few fatalities transplanting. I now have two very cute Purple Pitcher Plant sprouts, about 1/2" tall. This was a really fun project. This process took ...

Hirt's Gardens

They are perennial, with a stem of 8-14 inches high and linear leaves tapered toward the base. The leaves are densely covered with hairs that secrete a sticky sap that attracts insects. The hairs cover the top surface of the leaves and provide a moist appearance that is irresistable to insects. Once an insect is trapped on a leaf, the leaf curls around the insect. Drosera secretes digestive enzymes into this mix when it detects an insect and ...

Hirt's Gardens

This is a Nepenthes mix. It contains many species, including mirabilis, gracilis, sanguinea, truncata and many more that are only sold in this mix, but I cannot specify. Tropical pitcher plants generally grow as vines, climbing over other plants, and may grow as epiphytes, growing on other plants in the forest canopy, or as low shrubs. That plant grows well as a hanging basket plant inside the home, in a hot greenhouse or in a terrarium in your ...

Awesome!
The plant I got was larger than what I expected! Usually carnivorous plants I order are sent as tiny seedlings; this was large enough that after a week or so I felt I could feed it, I put a cricket in one of the pitchers and now there are new ones sprouting like mad! Some of the new pitchers are already longer than the originals; this is a wonderful buy for anyone even mildly interested in ...

Large Venus Fly Trap Plant - CARNIVOROUS - Dionaea1 review

Little Venus Fly Trap
I got this from my mother and love it! Named him Harold and though I don't have any flies to give him, he is growing well. You have to be diligent and make sure your trim any heads that start to turn black, and not let the plant dry out, but isn't that much work. I can't wait to get a bell jar for him and keep him in my windowsill.
