Call to Arms (The Damned, Book 1) 16 reviews Alan Dean Foster
Del Rey, 1992
Hooray for Humans!
+ Entertaining + Well-paced, story-driven, natural language science fiction
I picked this book up off of a desk somewhere during a former job. It was late, I was bored and the cover looked interesting. The book was a bit slow to start, but interesting once the pace increased. I found myself disappointed when I reached the last page because the job's library didn't have ...

Not just among the best...
+ Great Fun! + Whacky but picks up speed
Not just among the best invasion books ever written, but possibly THE best. Not only a great genre book, but good literature besides. These two are good authors by themselves, but when they work together, they approach Heinleinian levels of greatness. Fantastic.

Deeply philosophical sci-fi
+ SPACE APACHES - COOL!
I read the book years ago, but it's still one of my all-time favorites. Interesting and thoughtful philsophy, lots of action, lots of mystery and adventure. The first book is good, and the rest of the series just gets better and better.

Lucasfilm's Alien Chronicles: The Golden One (Lucasfilm's Alien Chronicles) 72 reviews Deborah Chester
Highbridge Audio, 1998
An originally series of potenial proportians.
+ I fell in love with fantasy + Not George Orwell, not George Lucas, but still good
Originally, I read part 2 of this series first. When I first read this book I had to re-read part 2 again. I say in it self that each book can stand alone, that's what part two did for me. This is the humble but aristocratic orgins of who we call the golden one. Ampris born a slave, stolen from her ...

The Postman (Bantam Classics) 139 reviews David Brin
Spectra, 1997
Gordon Krantz, Restored United States Postal Service
+ A story of hope and disillusionment, and hope again + Very real characters, and a very unreal world
"The Postman" by David Brin is a brilliant concept. The unifying symbol of a post-apocalyptic America is a man in the uniform of a much-maligned civil servant.
Gordon Krantz was a Minnesota university student when the U.S. and the world were hit with a triple-whammy. First a limited nuclear ...
