Unique and enthralling epic fantasy
+ Very good + The Riftwar continues...

Silverthorn (Riftwar Saga, Volume 3) 64 reviews Raymond E. Feist
Spectra, 1986
The exciting sequel to Magician
+ A Worthy Continuation of 'Magician' + Not Free SF Reader
In many respects, Magician (now sold as two books) was a saga unto itself - the time span, events, war, political intrigue, and heck even the physical length of the book. Coming out with a next installment worthy of the first, must truly have been daunting for Feist.
However, with Silverthorn I ...

The Dalemark Quartet, Volume 2: The Spellcoats and The Crown of Dalemark (Dalemark Quartet) 2 reviews Diana Wynne Jones
Eos, 2005
Once again, out of chronological order
+ Dalemark united
This set of four stories (two in each book) are out of chronological order, just like the four original Chrestomanci stories. This is the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. When these things are out of order they don't make sense and I have to spend time wrestling with the timelines ...

I will start by saying i would have given these books a (heck) of a lot more than five stars. These ar by far the best books I've ever read. I started reading them when #3 came out, and I read them all quickly (considering i was 11 and fast approaching the "max age" for these books according to the ...

Magician: Apprentice (Riftwar Saga) 330 reviews Raymond Feist
Spectra, 1994
Sensitively and Intelligently written
+ Good + A nice start
This is not your typical fantasy series beginning. The major theme is quite unique in that magicians can open rifts between worlds. And this is where this story starts, with a rift opening and an invading army coming through.
About the Magic:
I tend to shy away from books that focus too much ...

I could not put this book down. It kept my attention as no book has been able to do for a long time. I impatiently await receiving volume 2 in the mail so I can thoroughly enjoy reading the continuing story. As an adult, I prefer reading youth fantasy for it is clean and light-hearted and more ...

A wonderful book to hear
+ One of the Best Reads Since Dracula
I enjoyed listening to this book as I worked. The writing is descriptive and allows you to lose yourself in the story. After watching the movie, I recommend listening to these unabridged cds. The reader has a wonderful, clear voice that gives life to all the books characters.

Outstanding fantasy books, fresh approach to magic and well written.
+ My favorite children's book/s + Inventive and Fun
I found this book listed on the internet in a blog about books to read if you were suffering from Harry Potter withdrawals.
Well, I wasn't - but I was still interested in good fantasy fiction. So I gave this one a try and was very pleasantly surprised.
A couple of warnings for those of you ...
