Firefly's First Flight2 reviews
Joanne Barkan

Reader's Digest, 2005

Beautiful bedtime book

+ Beloved book--battery problem!

This warm story of a mother firefly allaying her child's fears of the dark is basic enough for even the youngest to grasp and is a perfect bedtime book. Heavy cardboard pages make it easy for tiny fingers to turn and the working firefly light offers interaction and imbues a soft, amber light on ...

Babies and Toddlers will Love this Book!

+ Pleased 18-month-old
+ This Book is WONDERFUL!!!!!

This is such a cool book! When you open the first page the caterpillar (which looks like a slinky with green cloth covering it) comes out and as you turn the pages he stays a caterpillar until the very last page when you turn the page the caterpillar disappears and out pops a beautiful butterfly!

Fireflies At Midnight is an upbeat poetry picture book for children. One of My Favorite Read Alouds

+ 4-year-old's favorite!
+ I didn't expect THAT ending

I teach fifth graders. I've this book to my class the past few years. After each reading, the class has been completely silent. Eventually, someone will quietly ask, "Wait a minute, what happened?" Soon the room is buzzing with discussion. I can't ask for anything more than that.

Reader's Digest

Reader's Digest, 2004

A wonderful book - for child AND reader!

+ We LOVE this book
+ great book

What an enchanting book! The text weaves a great story with charming graphics and fun, somewhat tongue-twisting, rhymes. Who knew that cricket clicks could have so many nuances? :-) My young daughter loves sticking her hand through the "holes" in the pages where the crickets go, and getting ...

Frog2 reviews
Susan Cooper

Margaret K. McElderry, 2002

An uplifting and beautifully illustrated tale

+ Nice Little Book That Makes for a Pleasant Read - a review of "Frog"

"Frog" combines an easy-to-read text by Susan Cooper with wonderful illustrations by Jane Browne. The book tells the story of Joe, a little boy who can't swim, even though other members of his family are skillful swimmers. This makes Joe sad. However, Joe's situation takes an unexpected turn when a ...
