House of Leaves582 reviews

If nothing else, provides material for good discussions

+ An engaging and clever read
+ A strange book

A book about a book written by an old man about a movie that never was, compiled by a young man with a psychotic mother and a broken life. It's a rich universe contained in a single volume, and it is amazing as long as you forget that none of it is real. Doubtlessly, people will be drawn to one ...

Laura Dern, Jeremy Irons

Absurda / Rhino, 2007

Some Kind of Modern Masterpeice

+ Meaningful. Beautiful. Magnum Opus.
+ Not his strongest but still great!

Lynch really out-did himself with this film. 1 minute short of 3 straight hours of abstract, non-linear, mind opening, mind blowing darkness... Laura Dern's performance was astounding, and really shook my senses. The only reason she hasn't been recognized for this role, that I can think of, is ...

Pantheon, 2006

Different.

If you are looking for something that is normal reading material, do not buy this book. But, if you are interested in strange literary forms and structures, check out this book and "House of Leaves" by the same author. The story is there, but it is hard to decipher. It is a difficult read, but ...

Lynch (One)1 review
Laura Dern, David Lynch

Absurda/David Lynch, 2008

A gripping experience . . .

From the first scene I was gripped and fascinated, not only by the eccentric Lynch, but by the pure artistry of the film itself. From the music and sounds to the vivid imagery and the intelligence of the storytelling I found the film a complete experience. I highly recommend this film.

Dark Pulp Reality

+ ahead of it's time

A very intense film that seems to have some Lynch ideas, but more akin to Hitchcock to real film fan. Even some of the acting direction harkens back to the fifties, I'm reminded of Night of the Hunter during the scene with Frank and the shopgirl, the almost bad acting over the top performance. I ...

The Cyclops is Following You

+ Ultra Jet Mosh Lifestyle Review
+ A wild ride through an absurd suburban hell...

Tony and Tammy are late for a business dinner party. Nothing too serious at first but soon they discover that the gated community where Tammy's boss lives is an impossible maze to navigate, especially due to the fact that all the streets and houses look exactly alike. Eventually, they find ...

This book is hilarious and serious and bizarro as hell!!

This is the first review i have written on Amazon. I felt compelled to write something since there was nothing under this amazing book. I have been a Carlton Mellick fan for some time and i must say he gets better and better as each new book comes out. If you are not that attracted to the ...

The Overwhelming Urge1 review
Andersen Prunty

Eraserhead Press, 2008

Save Our Sandwhiches

+ Pimps, Mothers, and that Diabetes guy...

The Overwhelming Urge has a certain underlying rhythm to it, like the dots and dashes of an SOS distress call. These shorts roll over the reader, wave upon wave, drawing a haplessly logical audience further from shore or any other recognizable reference point. Is it reasonable to wake up with laser ...
