An Unlikely Friendship: A Novel of Mary Todd Lincoln and Elizabeth Keckley 3 reviews Ann Rinaldi
Harcourt, 2007
Mrs. Lincoln and her dressmaker
+ Pranaya's Review + Women's history brought to life
I really enjoyed this book. It had an engaging storyline and even though the facts about the story have been told before, the dialog and details are so nicely done that the story is beathed new life. I read an adult book on the same subject and I prefer this book. I would recommend this book for 9+.

The One Left Behind 1 review Willo Davis Roberts
Atheneum, 2006
Left Behind
When I write a review of a children's book I have to be very careful that I don't let my preconceptions of that book's author color my reading of their newest work. When I read Polly Horvath, I can't assume that it's going to contain parentless children and when I read Kate DiCamillo I can't ...

All Older Children and Young Teens Should Read This Book
+ this book is so great
This book is a fascinating effort to bring home the horrors of the Holocaust and the pernicious effects of branding people as the "other." A must-read for our divisive, soulless times, I read this with my two older children and we all learned something from it. You will, too.

Real, gritty, inspiring.
+ Lots of Issues + Buy this book immediately!
I started this book because it looked like it'd be a fun read: a gay sports story. Not that many going around. But by the time I 'd finished it I realized it was so much more than that.
The Necessary Hunger touched me on so many levels that it's hard to lay them all out in any sort of order. ...

The Intruders 1 review E.E. Richardson
Delacorte Books for Young Readers, 2006
Blended Family Troubles and Creepy Ghosts--what's not to like?
Excellent little thriller for the 11 to 14 crowd. I'm a children's librarian, a sucker for ghost stories and can't resist a good scare. While "The Intruders" may not satisfy the gore and guts crowd, the tale will give the younger teens and tweens a few sleepless moments...partly because they ...

QUEEN B is the companion novel to Ms. Roberts's The Queen of Second Place. I haven't read the first book, which made me a little nervous when I started to read QUEEN B. Well, I had no need to be nervous because this stands up very well on its own.
The heroine, Cassie Howard, is a flawed but ...
