Jonah: A Handbook on the Hebrew Text (Baylor Handbook on the Hebrew Bible) (Baylor Handbook on the Hebrew ...1 review
W. Dennis Tucker Jr.

Baylor University Press, 2006

Good size and does the job

The small size, simple explanations, and parsing are good for an intermediate Hebrew student. We have found parsing errors, though. He quotes Trible, Sasson, and Waltke-O'Connor through the whole thing. It is not a commentary. It is a syntactical and morphological tool.

The Remarkable Journey of Jonah: A Scholarly, Conservative Study of His Amazing Record3 reviews
Henry M. Morris

Master Books, 2003

An Alternative View

Unlike the prior two authors, I found Henry's book both well researched and very compelling. If you enjoyed the Genesis Record, the Revelation Record or the New Defender's Bible, you enjoy the Journey of Jonah. Henry covers the history and background of the scriptures and provides a new insight ...

Communicator's Commentary: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah (Communicator's Commentary Ot)
Lloyd J. Ogilvie

W Publishing Group, 1991

The prophets Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, and Jonah were each called by God to speak to the individual and collective hearts and consciences of the apostate nation of Israel. "They continued the tradition of their great predecessors--Samuel, Nathan, Elijah, and Elisha," says author Dr. Lloyd Ogilvie. "As messengers of Yahweh, they counseled the people and the kings, but they also rebuked them, ...

Forgiveness in a Wounded World: Jonah's Dilemma (Studies in Biblical Literature)
Janet Howe Gaines

Society of Biblical Literature, 2003

The brief book of Jonah is the mighty mite of scriptural narratives. The story of the prophet swallowed by the giant fish is simple enough to delight a child and complex enough to confound a scholar. Human beings hesitate and falter, like Jonah, when trying to accept or imitate a model of divine forgiveness. This book culminates in a dialogue, informed by the best of modern biblical scholarship, ...

If we are honest, we have also had those times when we would have preferred to head off in the opposite direction from God. Using both Jonah's story and her own, Tara Soughers explores not only the cost of fleeing God, but also the surprising lessons that we learn on the way, even from ...

Jonah is a 5-lesson study written by Doris Greig and updated, revised and expanded by Kathy Rowland. The book of Jonah tells the story of an obstinate prophet who said No to God s command to prophesy to Ninevah, and fled in the opposite direction. God pursued Jonah, bringing him to the realization that God s way is best, that he could do nothing by himself. The book of Jonah teaches us to obey ...
