In the House of Murdoch

+ Another English story that's a good read
+ Monsters, monsters, everywhere

Ruth Rendell's latest novel under her other name, Barbara Vine, is one of her best efforts to date. As with all the books under the Vine name, the question here is not so much whodunnit as how did something awful come to happen: in this case, we know that the heroine, Kerstin Kvist, went to an ...

Cliché damages impressions

+ Deeply engaging

A modern Georgia's story of fragile strong old mother going to France for visiting her son-economic migrant just to accept a grim tragedy of his passing away. Depicting exotic for the Westerners Georgian mentality issues, it would be much better comprehended if money for a trip undertaken by ...

Nectar: A Novel of Temptation8 reviews
Lily Prior

Harper Perennial, 2003

Enjoyable

I don't know how she does it, but I can't seem to put Lily Prior books down. She has filled a book with totally unlikable characters and she has made it thoroughly enjoyable. I don't love this book as much as I truly loved La Cucina - the language didn't seem quick as poetic, but as long as you can ...

Garance Clavel, Zinedine Soualem

Columbia/Tri-Star, 1998

One of my most favorite movies ever

+ Girl finds village in the big city
+ A Miniature Masterpiece

This is such a wonderful portrait of Modern Paris, and a peep inside a great character's life. I needed to have this to watch on rainy (or sunny for that matter) days. Highly recommended especially if you like movies shot in Paris, movies about women coming of age, and films like Amelie. ENJOY!

Lewis Carroll

Penguin Classics, 2003

pay no attention to the fool below me

+ Wonderland
+ Delightfully silly and witty

I was shocked when i saw that the Alice books got 3 stars. these are literary classics , the two most complicated "children books" with many levels of interpretation. I know people have different tastes but this deserved an overall score of at least four.
