Ringworld's Children

+ Not his best, but definitely worth the journey...

Larry Niven has a wonderful series --- Ringworld --- and this is another excellent addition to that. It is a touch dated in some aspects, but not much and is as enjoyable today as when written. I recomend it to science fiction fans.

This Book is Great!

+ Kzinti Dune

I wouldn't normally spend time writing a review unless a book was either great or awful. "Destiny's Forge" is terrific. When I first read Larry Niven's "Ringworld" I kept thinking, "How does he think this stuff up?" Niven has a gift for telling a story that weaves the consequences of ...

Excellent!

+ Cool.

If you like Sci-Fi and you like Space, then You've GOT to read Larry Niven's Man Kzin books. He's gotten together with scientists and over 20 writers and created a so-fi world unlike any that's ever been created. His sci-fi world will continue perpetuating itself long after he's gone because ...

Larry Niven

Back when Known Space was great

+ Background on Known Space

Larry Niven really had a great universe with his "Known Space" series. It was just plain fun and imagnative. Larry has returned back to the Ring World and known space. But Ringworld's Children has pretty much ended the series and there isn't much more that can be done unless somebody decides to ...

Best of all the Man Kzin reads

+ Excellent!
+ Excellent!

A Darker Geometry is quite simply, the finest non-Niven Kzin/Man story. It has the works - Kzin, Outsiders, Puppeteers (even an aggressive, WARLIKE Puppeteer !) A superb story that would have graced Niven.

Ring World Engineers is a hugely entertaining book to read

I have always liked Larry Niven, and find a lot of his work fun and entertaining to read. This book was no exception as the ring world is something that would be personally fun to explore, much like finding a dyson sphere to go along with it, but if there is not enough material to make one, then a ...

Man Kzin Wars V3 reviews
Larry Niven

Baen, 1992

This is a good one...

+ Second best of the series so far.
+ Cool.

I just read the first story, "In the Hall of the Mountain King". It's an excellent homage to the old Humphrey Bogart movie,"Treasure of the Sierra Madre". It has enough Known Space detail that I didn't realize it until Jonah and two Kzin were in the mountains with an old man and some mules, panning ...

Really Good Classic Niven

If you've never read one of Niven's stories, this is probably not the one to start with. Start with the short story collections, like Tales of Known Space. But when you get hooked on his style and find that you can't get enough, do come back to it, buy it, and you will enjoy it thoroughly. It's ...

Larry Niven

Del Rey, 1997

If you read the others, you have to read this one

That is the ONLY reason to read it, too. His plot is thin and his characters are stale. Still, if you made it through the first two, you will find some closure in this one. (At the very least, you can say you read them all.) The science behind his fiction is so close to scientific possibility that ...

Man-Kzin Wars IX (Man-Kzin Wars)26 reviews

Baen, 2003

Revisiting the First Chapter

+ Good start to a great series
+ Sexual tension between different species.

This is a reissue of the first short-story incursion into this world by Larry Niven, complete with a retrospective introduction, in which Larry reflects on how much his "universe" has grown in detail and characterization since that story first saw the light of day. Still thoroughly enjoyable, with ...

Ring world is solid entertaining reading

+ Probably the best novel that is pure Niven.
+ One of the Ten Quadrillion Wonders of the Universe!

This is the first of the ring world series of books, and all of them are entertaining and fun to read as a whole set. These are stay up all night reading books good, with compelling characters, an excellent story line, and an awesome plot to go along with it that unfolds over the book and ...
