Agnes of God28 reviews
Jane Fonda, Anne Bancroft

Sony Pictures, 1996

Secrets and lies, faith and science
I picked up this movie recently as I remembered seeing its poster in the theaters at the place where we used to go to see movies. My mom told me that was a movie for adults, so it always had some intregue for me. Now that I am an adult (ha ha ha), it holds just as many questions and just as much mystery. Jane Fonda plays Dr. Livingston, a court appointed psychiatrist who has been called in ...

The Elephant Man135 reviews
Anthony Hopkins, John Hurt

Paramount, 1999

Pure and honest; a film that will never leave you...
It's hard for me to formulate with mere words the impact this film has had on me. `The Elephant Man' is so much more than a weepy drama about injustice, but in the end it becomes an overwhelming testament to the rarity of genuine kindness, and this is what serves as the catalyst for my falling tears. David Lynch's masterpiece captures the audience, sinking every claw and tooth into the ...

Walk the Proud Land4 reviews
Audie Murphy, Anne Bancroft

Universal Studios, 1997

I love Audie Murphy's movies, and this is one of the best!
Have you seen this video? If not, you really need to see it! It's great!! Honorable Audie Murphy is going to help govern the Apaches on a reservation. He gets to the reservation, and finds the chiefs chained up. He sets them free, sends the Army away, and gains the Indians' respect. And one Indian's love. The love of Teona, an Indian woman, is his for the taking. But he already has a ...

Turning Point54 reviews
Shirley MacLaine, Anne Bancroft

20th Century Fox, 1993

Great Tender Movie
I hadn't seen this movie in over 10 years, but even though there were some slow scenes, I'll still watch this movie again and again. The dancing was wonderful, and Leslie Brown's dancing sparkled. Youthful, Mikhail Baryshnikov was fantastic, as usual. I also loved the rest of the cast. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Young Winston11 reviews
Robert Shaw, Anne Bancroft

RCA Columbia Pictures Home Video, 1995

Forming a Leader
Young Winston is the story of Winston Churchill. It begins with him being sent off to school at about six, but spends much of its time with him as a young officer in the British Army. The best part to me was the episode during the Boar where he was captured and then escaped. I've been to the spot where he was captured and it was rendered very well in the movie. Indeed it was to see this event ...

84 Charing Cross Road90 reviews
Anne Bancroft, Anthony Hopkins

Sony Pictures, 1995

A charming story to warm the cockles of any bibliophile's or Anglophile's heart!
I had never heard of Helene Hanff until about two years ago when I chanced upon this little gem of a movie that has stayed with me ever since. I have watched this movie often since then, and find delight in it every single time. Also, I have read Helene Hanff's book of the same title, and it makes for a wonderful read indeed. 84 Charing Cross Road is a love story of sorts - of two people ...

To Be Or Not to Be (1983)24 reviews
Mel Brooks, Anne Bancroft

20th Century Fox, 1997

Mr & Mrs Brooks
Mrs. Robinson has grown up and turned to comedy. Anne Bancroft (Mrs. Mel Brooks) is an outstanding comedienne. Don't let the beginning put you off-stick with it. And Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner Charles Durning. Mel for once in a STARRING role, although George Gaynes steals the show (Police Academy commandant Lazard). Wonderful musical, treats a serious subject with extreme slapstick ...

Homecoming (1996)15 reviews
Anne Bancroft, Kimberlee Peterson

Evergreen Ent, 1999

Your heart will be broken............then it will be warmed!
"Homecoming" tells the story of four siblings in search of their grandmother after being abandoned in a mall parking lot by their mother who suffers from a mental illness. Led by the oldest sister, Dicey (age 13), the children travel many miles on foot to a grandmother they have never known. Anne Bancroft does a fantastic job of portraying a cranky old woman who has forgotten what it is to ...

Jesus of Nazareth (3pc)357 reviews
Robert Powell, Anne Bancroft

Live / Artisan, 1995

Being an Atheist, I still adore this film
As a child, no TV image comes out as clearly and emotional as Robert Powells eyes and glances during the whole length of his scenes during this production; is truly bewitching and one must admit, Zeffirelli distilled pured genius when designing the character... Jesus is in fact DIVINE. Overall, I find this -being an Atheist, i've always had a fascination for Christian/religious films- the finest ...

'night, Mother25 reviews
Sissy Spacek, Anne Bancroft

Universal Studios Home Video, 2000

A Fine Film about a Hard Subject
I teach Education Profession in which I work with high school students who want to explore the teaching profession. When we studied barriers to learning, targeting grief and depression, we watched this video. 'Night, Mother captures the factual stages and characteristics very well. Afterwards my students (16-18 year olds) said they enjoyed it even though "it was sad." Suicide is sad, but in a ...

The Slender Thread4 reviews
Sidney Poitier, Anne Bancroft

Paramount Pictures, 1998

Bancroft & Poitier at their best - a Classic!
Was fortunate enough to come across The Slender Thread on a cable movie channel several years ago. This film is Anne Brancroft & Sidney Poitier are at their best - extrodinary performances! Poitier plays a Seattle college student volunteering at a crisis center. One night when he's at the clinic alone, a woman (Bancroft) calls needing to talk saying she's taken pills. While Poitier tries to get ...

This is a wonderful movie. Acting is superb and overcomes the obvious dated cinematography. Some things are classics and endure, this is one such thing .

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Love Potion #9
Tate Donovan, Sandra Bullock

Buena Vista Home Video, 1994

Valentine's Day puts the Chipmunks in the "mood for love." Under Cupid's spell, they start acting a little goofier than usual in this hilarious volume filled with romance, mischief and fun songs like "Love Potion #9." It's one video kids are sure to love, any day of the year! Includes - THEODORE AND JULIET: Theodore finds the road to romance a little rockier than he bargained for when he dreams of being a real Romeo to a little girl named ...

Home for the Holidays105 reviews
Holly Hunter, Robert Downey Jr.

MGM (Video & DVD), 2000

Great underrated film
This great story about a more "normal" family than most will ever admit starts funny and ends nicely (and you will need to pay attention to get it). In between we are taken on a roller coaster ride of insanity, dark humor, insight, observation and discomfort - as in "OMG-that's my sister (brother, dad, etc.). I laughed, cried, puzzled, identified and it seemed to all sum up in Dad's ...

Prisoner of Second Avenue13 reviews
Jack Lemmon, Anne Bancroft

Warner Home Video, 1998

Another underrated classic.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. It shows the funny side of people only concerned about themselves. You have Jack Lemmon as a recently unemployed adman, and Anne Bancroft as his sympathetic yet let's be practical wife. I feel that this is both thier finest hours in this movie as the chemistry shows that they really enjoyed working with each other. I find Lemmon's character is one who ...

The Pumpkin Eater7 reviews
Anne Bancroft, Peter Finch

Sony Pictures, 1995

ACTING EXCELLENCE.
Anne Bancroft, in an AA nominated performance, plays a twice-married mother of six. She divorces her second husband (played by Richard Johnson) and takes up with a highly successful screenwriter played by Peter Finch. After the two marry, it is obvious that her philandering husband will never buckle down to her notions of marital fidelity. This sometimes confusing, sometimes depressing film is ...

Heartbreakers (2001) (Dol)143 reviews
Michael Andrew, Anne Bancroft

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), 2002

All that matters here is Jennifer Love Hewitt
This is a must-have for any hetero male who can't wait for it to come around again on cable TV. Forget all the bad reviews; all that matters is that Jennifer Love Hewitt is painfully hot in this movie. Actually it's a half-decent film that rises above the level of sex comedies aimed at the 18-35 knuckle-dragging audience. But that doesnt' matter. Yeah, it's light fare but you won't care. The ...

Broadway Bound - (aka "Neil Simon's BROADWAY BOUND")3 reviews
Anne Bancroft, Hume Cronyn

Abc Video, 1993

Best of the Trilogy
It may be a sad way to end the "light-hearted" series, but it's based on what happened to Neil Simon in real life. Easily the most poignant of the trilogy, and the best dramatic work. It's a pity this probably isn't going to make it to DVD, as people don't like "sad" with their "funny".
