You & Me [VHS]8 reviews
Sylvia Sidney, George Raft

Universal Studios, 1998

The Gang That Couldn't Think Straight
Made in 1938, Fritz Lang's You and Me was probably the first noir/crime film to combine comedy, lighthearted romance, and musical sketches into a morality play concerning the consequences of crime. Sylvia Sydney as the sprightly salesgirl Helen, carries the picture. In a familiar role that seemed to define her career, Sydney became an icon for working women of the thirties and forties who ...

Whistle Stop [VHS]2 reviews
George Raft, Ava Gardner

Laserlight Digital, 1998

"But it was always her."
1946's "Whistle Stop" is one of George Raft's few film noir roles that's available on vhs/dvd, and as previous reviewers have already stated, it's not one of the classic examples of film noir. However, it's really not that bad and it does have a lot going for it, like Dimitri Tiomkin's beautiful score, the amazingly stunning Ava Gardner, and the much underated Victor McLaglen. It's the plot ...

Each Dawn I Die [VHS]15 reviews
James Cagney, George Raft

Turner Home Ent, 2000

A Pleasure to Watch.
It was a pleasure to watch Cagney and Raft together. I had never seen this movie before but was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Some of the fight scenes look a little phony but that's typical of movies made during this period. The quality of the DVD is excellent, both picture and sound. If you like gangster movies you will definitely enjoy this one.

Some Like It Hot (1959) [VHS]258 reviews
Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis

MGM (Video & DVD), 1998

Classic Comedy Film
Classic old comedy film in the late 1950's by Billy Wilder starring Marilyn Monroe taking on cross-dressing & gender roles when such things weren't really done. They probably got away with it because it was so funny & because of the film's fast pace. It holds up very well today & is still considered one of the great comedy films of all time. A must to have.

Night After Night [VHS]6 reviews
George Raft, Constance Cummings

Universal Studios, 1998

A very good pre-code movie
I'd always read that this film's only asset was being the movie in which Mae West made her screen debut, and having seen it, I can say that that's untrue and absolutely unfair. West is in top & rare (different from her subsequent stereotyped love goddess persona) form as Maudie, Raft's old flame and friend, and her scenes are very funny, but that's only part of it. George Raft plays the lead as ...

Spawn of the North (B&W) [VHS]3 reviews
George Raft, Henry Fonda

Universal Studios, 1998

Four Great Stars in a Five Star Film
SPAWN OF THE NORTH is one of the most underrated films from the late 1930's although at the time it was a big hit and won Academy Awards for it's excellent special effects (so impressive they were lifted in put in later films). The movie stars Henry Fonda, Dorothy Lamour, George Raft, and John Barrymore and is set in Alaska. Dorothy Lamour has one of the best dramatic roles of her career as the ...

Edward G. Robinson, George Raft

A Bullet For Joey
I was so glad to get a chance to watch Edward G. Robinson. I don't believe his works have been fully appreciated. He is really a great actor and more of his work should be brought to DVD so that people will have exposure. There are so many facets to him.

Gary Cooper, George Raft

Mr Ace [VHS]2 reviews
George Raft, Sylvia Sidney

Image Entertainment, 1999

An entertaining movie if your standards aren't too high, and mine aren't. I like Mr. Ace
George Raft plays Eddie Ace, head of the state's Tomahawk Club. Ace is a behind-the-scenes political fixer, a man who can deliver votes. Nowadays he'd be seen as a cross between a machine boss, a lobbyist and a political consultant, but without the body odor of the last two. Sylvia Sidney plays Margaret Wyndham Chase, a glamorous, spoiled society dame with three names. Chase is a wealthy, ...

Background to Danger [VHS]6 reviews
George Raft, Brenda Marshall

MGM (Warner), 1998

Who To Believe?
George Raft is a self described salesman travelling throughout Asia who gets tangled up in a Nazi plan to bring neutral Turkey into the war on their side. He encounters spy Osa Massen on a train. She's being followed, so she gives him an envelope containing forged plans to invade Turkey supposedly by the Russians so that Turkey will want to side with the Axis. When she turns up dead later in ...

The Man with Bogart's Face [VHS]12 reviews
Robert Sacchi, Franco Nero

20th Century Fox, 2000

Sam Marlow in "The Eyes of Alexander"
All Bogie fans, in fact ALL lovers of classics should see THE MAN WITH BOGART'S FACE. It stars Robert Sacchi, who is an uncanny double for Mr. B. in size, face, hair, mannerisms and voice. Watching him in this movie is like seeing Bogie alive again. The story opens at a plastic surgeon's office. The gauze wrappings are removed from our hero's face; he sits in front of a TV that's showing the ...

They Drive By Night (1940) [VHS]31 reviews
George Raft, Humphrey Bogart

MGM (Video & DVD), 1998

Gotta Love That Lupino!
Wonderful film about working class men driving trucks for a living. They meet nice girls and.... bad girls! One bad girl is Ida Lupino who lusts after George Raft but is married to the boss. One nice girl is Ann Sheridan who is eligible to be married and will make a good wife. Of course Bogart is the good husband with the nice loyal wife. What's the bad girl going to do! The doors made me ...

Follow the Boys VHS
Tape was brand new and I received it in just 3 or 4 days after I placed my order. My husband's uncle was one of the soldiers in the movie and we were thrilled to be able to find the movie.
