Adventures of Huck Finn [VHS]51 reviews
Elijah Wood, Courtney B. Vance

Walt Disney Video, 1997

Engaging Re-Telling of a Classic
I am a big fan of Mark Twain stories, and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It's true that not every moment of the book is in the film, but what movie has ever captured a book's every nuance? The acting and casting in this movie is very good, and they really did do a nice job of recreating so many of Twain's vivid scenes. It is one of those movies that I could watch over and over again.

All the President's Men [VHS]165 reviews
Dustin Hoffman, Robert Redford

Warner Home Video, 1998

The ratings are not overstated for this one!
But shop Amazon's UK site first before buying. You can get it for about half the US price, including shipping, if you have a multi-region DVD machine.

Philadelphia [VHS]113 reviews
Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington

Sony Pictures, 1995

Great!
The movie I had ordered arrived sooner than I thought and in great condition, which was the condition that was stated it to be when I had purchased the movie. I was very satisfied with this purchase.

Big Hand for the Little Lady [VHS]23 reviews
Henry Fonda, Joanne Woodward

Warner Home Video, 1998

Just the way I remembered it
This is a really fun older movie. The acting is very good, and the story is different. Great family movie for kids about middle school age and up.

War Between Men & Women [VHS]5 reviews
Jack Lemmon, Barbara Harris

20th Century Fox, 1999

All That and Thurber, Too
What most reviewers miss about this romantic comedy is that it's primo for its style -- Good Neighbor Sam, Please Don't Eat the Daisies -- and they decided to spice up the montages by animating Thurber comics (since the central figure is a misanthropic cartoonist who falls in love in spite of himself). It's an old fashioned comedy, funny like they used to be: two dimensional characters, a ...

The Legend of the Lone Ranger [VHS]30 reviews
Klinton Spilsbury, Michael Horse

Family Home Ent, 1995

The Legend of the Lone Ranger
The disc is fairly sharp would be nicer on blu ray but none the less a worthwhile buy at the price

Julia [VHS]54 reviews
Jane Fonda, Vanessa Redgrave

20th Century Fox, 1993

One of the BEST FILMS of the latter 20th Century.
I have seen this over 20 times, and find the story, pacing and settings captivating. Let us review the film on its merits as a docu-drama and the wonderful and deep characterizations portrayed by Vanessa Redgrave and Jane Fonda. A woman's memoir of a turbulent time in her life and the world's. A story of devotion and sacrifice. I had seen this in the cinema with my best friend when we were very ...

Long Hot Summer [VHS]25 reviews
Don Johnson, Jason Robards

Fox Home Entertainment, 1988

great movie
This was a great movie. My Aunt was actually an extra in it! I was so glad to get this. Our family only had it recorded off tv years ago. So I gave this copy to my Mother for her birthday. She cried (my Aunt passed away 2 years ago.) My Aunt had said that it really was that hot the day they taped the movie!

Dream a Little Dream [VHS]46 reviews
Corey Feldman, Jason Robards

Lions Gate/Vestron, 1989

Campy, but a lot of fun.
Probably the best Corey brothers' film. Van Morrison's music added just the right ambience. Harry Dean Stanton was right on. Two great ensembles with the right chemistry to make a fantastic story feel possible.

Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid [VHS]97 reviews
James Coburn, Kris Kristofferson

MGM/UA, 1994

Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid
I had heard so much about this movie and love the music that Bob Dylan wrote for it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Some of my favorite actors were in it, and I've always loved Westerns. But for me personally, the best part was getting to see Bob act and to see the scenes that he wrote the music for.

Heidi (1993) (Clam) [VHS]29 reviews
Jason Robards, Jane Seymour

Walt Disney Video, 2003

Heidi the movie with Jason Robards
This Heidi production is one of my favorite movies! It is very well acted and tells how life was like in Germany and Switzerland. You really come to love the characters, especially Heidi!

Storyville [VHS]10 reviews
James Spader, Joanne Whalley

Sony Pictures, 1998

A true picture of how Louisiana operates.
I should know; I grew up there. I agree with Florida, but I think the film was excellently cast, especially Michael Parks as the corrupt cop. Great accent and acting on his part. It may be a bit dated know, since it was made 15 years ago, but that movie is still the Louisiana I grew up in - and believe me, that is how politics still works there.

The House Without A Christmas Tree [VHS]163 reviews
Jason Robards, Mildred Natwick

20th Century Fox, 1996

The movie: House Without A Christmas Tree
It's a pretty good Christmas movie. More about good motives etc. and the tugging of the heart, which is certainly part of Christmas. I would always prefer more about Jesus in Christmas. After all it is His birthday. But the movie is great entertainment and is inspiring.

Something Wicked This Way Comes [VHS]84 reviews
Jason Robards, Jonathan Pryce

Starz / Anchor Bay, 1999

One of the best of Disney's "dark" side
I saw this movie when it debuted in the 80s; it goes without saying that a LOT of time had passed since I saw it and I wanted to see if the chills still held up. Bottom line: yes, they most certainly do. Jonathan Price as Mr. Dark is as fine a villain as has ever been envisioned. The carousel scene at the end is still one of the most chill-inducing I've seen in a PG movie. Perhaps the most ...

A Boy & His Dog [VHS]74 reviews
Hal Baylor, Susanne Benton

First Run Features, 1999

A Boy And HIs Dog what a title
This is another of the bad B cult movies that came out in the 80's. The acting is ok with this being Don Johnson before the Miami Vice days. The talking dog is probably the best part of the film. But still one of those that if you like this kind of movie you'll love it.

The Civil War - A Film by Ken Burns (Boxed Set) [VHS]153 reviews
David McCullough, Sam Waterston

Pbs Home Video, 1997

A true masterpiece, regardless of historical reservations!
Regardless of historical reservations and allegations of bias from both North and South, I regard this work of Ken Burns as a true masterpiece. I bought my first set on VHS several years ago at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and played it through a dozen or more times. I went to the expense of having this set transferred to new tapes for my VHS player here in England. Having heard in 2002 that it was ...

Final Warning [VHS]1 review
Jon Voight, Jason Robards

Turner Home Entertainment, 1991

Education Through Disaster
In 1986, a nuclear disaster rocked the Soviet Union. "Final Warning" is a chronological look at the cause and effects of that tragedy. It focuses primarily on the doctors who rushed to battle the effects of the radiation. Smartly directed, "Final Warning" is a sad and educational depiction of history.

Paper [VHS]36 reviews
Michael Keaton, Robert Duvall

Universal Studios, 1995

Clever, fast-paced and highly entertaining
If you have ever wanted to watch Glenn Close trade blows with Michael Keaton, now's your chance. (I won't tell you who wins.) The Paper is one of those films that seems to get better with each viewing. There is so much detail and the writing is so tight that you simply can't catch it all the first time around--no matter how observant you are. (Look at the sidewalk in the restaurant scene if ...

They Drew Fire: Combat Artists World War II [VHS]2 reviews
Jason Robards, Franklin Boggs

Homevision, 2000

They Drew Fire
This is an outstanding and unusual video. It shows the artist/soldiers who were fighting the war and also drawing the scenes they had just participated in. I've never seen a video that depited the brutal scenes of war so vividly. We have watched it many times and have purchased many of these videos to give to others. It is amazing. I was particularly impressed by their honesty, admitting ...
