very enlightening
This movie is incredibly enlightening, it is full of nothing but informative yet interesting conversations. Everything said in this movie has meaning and power behind it. It will truly open your mind.. to other things. To other dimensions..

Before Sunrise [VHS]219 reviews
Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy

Turner Home Ent, 1998

Beautiful
This movie is perfect. Romance movies, are normally terrible, they are cheesy, unrealistic, and in no way show what relationships are really like. This movie, is nothing like that, it is quite possibly the best romance movie ever(its sequel being strong competition) and needs to be seen, not just by people who like love stories, but by people that hate love stories. If your a hopeless romantic, ...

Passion of Beatrice [VHS]6 reviews
Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu, Julie Delpy

M.C.E.G./Virgin Visi, 1989

Offbeat, ritualistic medieval classic
I've watched this film many times, and it never fails to move me. It has the aura of ritual -- as when the father points to his heart and says "Here" before his daughter stabs him, a death he has surely earned. Is this what he has desired all along? Did she have to dress up in her disgraced brother's clothes before being capable of murder? Etc. This film is so un-PC, the viewer might be best ...

Voyager [VHS]13 reviews
Sam Shepard, Julie Delpy

Fox Lorber, 1997

Compelling. Get's at your heart.
A movie about karma, written by a Buddhist but having nothing overtly to do with Buddhism. The actors all play their roles well and the intensity of their emotions simply leaves one breathless. Having watched this movie about 10 times, I learn something new about myself every single time I watch it. This is one of the most traggic love stories ever written. It might leave you in tears but there ...

White [VHS]41 reviews
Zbigniew Zamachowski, Julie Delpy

Miramax, 1996

A Black Comedy Called White
This movie highlights the idea of equalite or Equality. A man from Poland humiliated and rejected by his French wife returns to Poland where he finds a gangsterish mentality has taken over the country in new found capitalism and strives to make good. His adventures take him back to his wife where he finally has a trap set for her. They finally become equals and he is no longer "nothing". Now ...

The Three Musketeers (Walt Disney Pictures Presents) [VHS]147 reviews
Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland

Walt Disney Home Video, 1994

Intro to an Old Classic
I bought The Three Musketeers to introduce my two grandsons to the classic tale. They are 12 and 10 and I couldn't find a suitable children's edition for them of the book. They had recently taken fencing lessons. I told them this would show them how it used to be done. Their joint opinion was it was great. We really liked the excitement and thought it was really good. We'll watch it again. Thak ...

Colonel Chabert [VHS]11 reviews
Gérard Depardieu, Fanny Ardant

Republic Pictures, 1996

Bravo Angelo
This directorial debut for cinematographer Yves Angelo who shot Claude Berri's Germinal and Alain Corneau's Tous Les Matins du Monde is an exciting achievement, visually ravishing. This is a beautiful realisation of the Honore de Balzac story of a soldier thought to have been killed in the 1807 Battle of Eylau, who returns to Paris to reclaim his name and fortune from his now remarried wife. The ...

Before Sunset (P&S Dol) [VHS]217 reviews
Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy

Warner Home Video, 2004

Only one major beef with a great film ...
Ok, I finally had to weigh in on Before Sunset. Along with Before Sunrise, it is an outstanding film and probably the stronger of the two for the genuine honesty that is expressed throughout. You really can believe that two people would actually talk and feel the way these characters do. Here's my only beef with the story... I had a tough time swallowing Celine's excuse for making no ...

Europa Europa [VHS]101 reviews
Solomon Perel, Marco Hofschneider

Orion Home Video, 1992

A Boy In Search Of Himself
If it were not for the fact that the real Solomon Perel appears towards the end of Europa Europa, I would be tempted to believe this film was fiction. It seems too unlikely that a Jewish boy could survive World War II, first as a good Soviet, then as a good Nazi, without being discovered. But apparently it happened, and this film does an excellent job of depicting the extraordinary story. ...

Young & Younger [VHS]3 reviews
Donald Sutherland, Lolita Davidovich

Paramount, 1996

My brother-in-law was in this!
My brother-in-law was in this movie. He doesn't talk, but he's one of the ball room dancers. Near the end of the movie he spins a girl and she falls to the floor... don't know if that was on purpose, but they kept it in... probably for comic relief becuase this was such a boring movie. I only watched it becuase he was in it. Brenden Frasier is adorable in it, but he always is!!

Killing Zoe [VHS]57 reviews
Eric Stoltz, Julie Delpy

Live / Artisan, 2000

Improbable? Yes Great? Yes
This is a bank heist movie. You know, there's a safecracker, blueprints, a plan. Problem is the gang doing the heist is made up of assorted druggies and wackos. Wackiest of all is the gang leader, Eric (Jean-Hughes Anglade). Anglade put about 200% into this role. Injected into the robbery is Zed (Eric Stoltz), Eric's childhood friend. Apparently they were close, but they haven't seen each ...

The Treat [VHS]4 reviews
Richmond Arquette, Daniel Baldwin

Mti Home Video, 2001

Just try again
Because I do like this movie. In my last trying I just said I guess some people will love this movie and some people will, er, say it is valueless and believe they've ignored it successfully. It seems some words...I won't consider they are really dirty words...aren't allowed to appear on this board. I asked if a paradise of women exists, or has ever existed in some corners in the world. Then I ...

Jean Luc-Godard's King Lear [VHS]5 reviews
Woody Allen, Leos Carax

Cinematheque Collection, 1992

One of Godard's Best...
Godard's King Lear is an extended meditation on the possibilty or impossibility of capital-A "Art" in the postmodern age. It engages inconsistently at best with Lear--if you're looking for an interesting, coherent interpretation of Shakespeare's play, you'll probably want to look somewhere else--but as a working-through of what it means to create Art or what counts as Art, it is incomparable. ...

Sand (2000) [VHS]11 reviews
Michael Vartan, Norman Reedus

Vidmark / Trimark, 2002

Falling asleep on the beach
I came to this movie with low expectations after reading the reviews on this site. Sand is not a great movie, but it's not terrible, as in say, The Sum of All Fears was a terrible movie. I think Sand achieves on the level it was meant to achieve. I suppose it's "real" enough to be boring. The plot is fairly thin. A young man who looks like an alumnus of Beverly Hills 90210 or Dawson's Creek ...

Blue [VHS]90 reviews
Juliette Binoche, Zbigniew Zamachowski

Miramax, 1996

Grief and loss explored with mystery, grace, and compassion
This is a beautiful film with superb photography and acting, especially the brilliant performance of Juliette Binoche. The film begins with tragedy as the husband and 5 year old daughter of a young French woman are killed in a car accident. Julie (played by Binoche) is knocked unconscious and does not remember the accident or the deaths of her family members. She is badly cut and bruised from ...

The Passion of Ayn Rand [VHS]36 reviews
Helen Mirren, Eric Stoltz

Showtime Ent., 2001

Important document
This is a great look at just how destructive Ayn Rand was toward those around her. Too bad our nation wasn't aware of how many important political movers and shakers still followed her selfishly greedy mindset, we could have avoided the fall of western civilization.
